DETAILS
General Info
Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities helps people live meaningful lives. What is meaningful for each individual differs depending on the person, their family and their situation, so we get to know each individual and develop individualized plans. We provide services and support for people with developmental disabilities of all ages and their families. It all starts with early intervention services for infants and toddlers who have a developmental delay. We coach parents in the child’s natural environment as they go through daily routines. We teach parents how to teach their child using toys and equipment in their home with the goal to minimize developmental delay so a child can start school with as many capabilities as possible. For those with intellectual disabilities and special needs who might struggle in a public school setting, our Holmes County Board of DD school serves children from kindergarten up to 22 years old in the least restrictive environment. We have an on-site nurse who provides medication administration and seizure monitoring. In addition to special education, we offer music therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. We also offer transition services for youth ages 14 to 22 who have a developmental disability to help them get ready for adult life before graduation. We provide a safe space for them to develop social skills and explore job opportunities. And for adults, we connect them to provider services for adult day programs and employment training programs. Locally known as the Holmes County training center, we offer much more as we have a special needs library and Special Olympics basketball team.
