DO NOT GO HERE!!!! At least not until they are staffed appropriately. We bought lessons and you cannot get time. It is like a race every Monday to try to book ANYTHING. They have ONE instructor! You can't even call them. They only answer phone between 12 and 2. You can't book online, so you have to plan your day around 2 hrs to try to reach them.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION !!!!!!

I think I'm in the process of being scammed. Paid with checks, they claim they "lost" them and now want me to write duplicate checks. Their accounting records show that I paid, but they expect me to pay again, without returning my other checks. They are holding my child's certificate hostage for their shoddy accounting practices. These are checks that were written two months ago, and now "all of the sudden" they don't know what happened???

WOW - the new location is supe...

WOW - the new location is superb. Very comfortable and spacious. And they are getting theater seating in one of their rooms for a class and movies on the weekends.

My son took this class in the summer and I took defensive driving last week. My sons instructor was excellent - a little abrupt, but knew his stuff. The drivers were amazingly experienced and really seem to care. My dd was not the best, but liked the atmosphere. Shana is great. Gives you time and knows what is needed to get the job done.

Can't believe how much better this place is than a couple of other schools in the area. Better teaching, better atmosphere, better service. My first sons experience did not compare at the school he went to across the road. Wish I had known about this school for him.

Thanks so much for how you have given my son the best education in an area that will help save his life. Keep up the good work.

My experience with this school has been GREAT!

It's hard to argue with someone else's experience, so I will instead share my own. I arranged with the Helotes Driving School for adult driving lessons 3 months before coming to Texas to take care of an elderly parent. The staff were polite, helpful, detailed in their explanation of both their policy and that of the TX Dept. of Public Safety. They gave me clear instructions about the ID documentation that would be needed. Upon our arrival, Shana and Matt helped me schedule my first lesson to take place within a week. When scheduling myself, I made sure to double-check with the staff (they provide students with a blank schedule to fill in for reference) to make sure I was clear on the exact days and start-times. There is a no-show fee. Being mentally present while scheduling oneself--as well as when driving--is useful.

I didn't merely come for my lessons; rather, I made sure to observe and note the interactions between teachers, staff, parents and the students. I observed that teachers are very mature and knowledgeable. My instructor is excellent. He demonstrates a passion for both teaching and driving. He knows how to give (and receive) constructive feedback and he guides the students in his vehicle to work together as a team in sharing this feedback. Everyone in the car is given challenges to be observant at all times.

I have already recommended the Helotes Driving School to my San Antonio friends who have teen kids or grandchildren. I trust their experiences will also be positive.

This place sux-very poor service!!

I would not recommend taking your kids here for drivers ed. They have very poor business sense and lousy customer service!! They will not give an inch for any reason. If your 5 min late to a class your kid has to come back to make up the two hours on another day--over a month after the class finishes!! If your kid is a kid and comes back late from a break they will kick them out of class and you'll have to bring them back to a different session, again more than a month later. My Kids, both straight A students in school, did not learn from the poor instructors they have. They do not give students a handbook (as required) but expect them to do all the questions at the end of evey chapter before the last class date, but don't give enough time in class. the driving is a waste of time--no skills taught--ride an hour and a drive on 1604 at night. if your late of forget your paper work, they charge you $25 ad won't let you schedule another lesson until you pay, if you don't finish all lessons in 180 days FROM THE TIME YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT, even if the class starts 60 days after you sign (a month in class, and 7 driving lessons) in less than 8 weeks, but you can't do more than one a week, --- then you have to give them another $50 requrdless of the number of lessons, that gives you anoter 180 days... THIS PLACE IS LOUSY and would not be in business if there was local competition!!!!

take your kids up Bandera Road to the location in Leon Valley or any where else but here!

I hate to hear that this dad is so upset with our school. In reading though, I see that a lot of what he is upset about is not even our policy. Texas Education Agency says that the students are not allowed to be absent more than 5 minutes out of the hour, or they must make that session up. The fact that the instructor does not allow tardiness is not that he does not understand, etc. He is obligated to follow regulations. The make ups may not be a month apart either; it just depends on the student's schedule. Again, this is regulated by T.E.A., and the method is explained to the family through a paper that is distributed on day 1 of the class. It can also be found on policies and procedures on our webpage. We don't try to make it difficult, and we hate that a family may have bad feelings towards us, but we are not able to change the way the state regulates certain areas. We are, however available to clarify how things work if students/parents are unclear. As for the handbook, students are given one to use until they are done, then i0t is turned in. The students do have book work to do that they work on in class, (for the first hr) but it does not have to be complted in the month of class. Actually, they have 6 months to complete the course, and they can come in any time to borrow our textbook. Again, the state regulates our school, and how much time the students are in class. There is no way to alter that, and I will agree that there is a lot to cover. At the same time, one can not really say how much time a student needs, as they are all different. They can have as much time as they need within their contract. Even outside of that, we work with familieswhen they tell us of their difficulties;it just depends on their situation. As far as the length of the contract, it is 6 months from the day the class starts, not from the date that it was executed; many families sign up months in advance, and they still all have the same deadline. (according to their class.) He is right, there is a fee if the student does not show up for a drive, or if they are too late to drive. That is not an obscure rule, and is agreed upon at enrollment. They have to be there on time for the schedule to run smoothly. Also, they have to drive 50 min. out of an hour for the drive to count, so there is not much room for them to be late. I guess the "paperwork" that the gentlman is referring to is the permit. That is the only thing that would prevent them from driving. This is a legal issue. They can not drive without it; they could get a ticket. A student without a permit is like a student not showing up. They can't drive with us. We are not the only school in the area, so we are not in business because of that. We are here out of care for students and their families, and because we strive for perfection in all areas. I realize that we will not make everyonr happy, and all will not agree with the way that some things run, but I know that one will find many of these polocies at other schools. I regret that this family feeels that they were not treated well, and that our business is "lousy," but you will not find a driving school that cares more about their students, students' families and the quality of business, treatment, and education that they receive. What I would ask our customer and future customers to do is ask questions if you are unclear about something;let us know if you if you are having troubles etc. That is the only way we can fix anything. We'd rather have the opportunity to fix it for you while you are with us, than have appologize for something in the end. We truly care about the way our families feel, and want everyone to get the most out of their driver ed.
