The Pennsylvania Department of Aging, established in 1978, provides services to more than 3 million senior citizens in Pennsylvania. The department provides various services and benefits through more than 50 area agencies. The Pennsylvania Department of Aging offers a range of in-home community services, as well as an extensive pharmaceutical program. It also provides nursing facility care assessments, financial assistance and health care services. The department operates several senior health care centers and offers nutritional services. It offers a range of health care services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease, blindness, dental ailments, drug and alcohol addiction and mental disabilities through various nursing home facilities, restoration and health centers and mental hospitals.
