We hired Malek (luxury outdoor living) because our personal interview with him went well. He presents himself professionally, is polite, and as well spoken. From then on, very little went well. He started construction before we ever saw a plan. Despite my request, he never contacted our homeowners association. Two months into the project that was to take two weeks, he scribbled a design on a piece of paper and allowed us to forward this to our homeowners association; a child would have been more detailed. Approximately four months into the project, he stopped showing up and refuse to answer phone calls. This lasted for almost 6 weeks. He suddenly returned an email stating he was having personal problems and apologized for what had occurred. Trying to be understanding, we allowed him to complete the project and paid him in full. He promised constant communication at that time and continue to be apologetic. However, after eight months of delays, the project was finally complete except for a few small problems. However, he fixed a couple of problems and then stopped answering all communications again. Dozens of phone calls, emails, messages left at his business, and no response. We had to hire an electrician to fix errors in his work. The subcontractors that built our deck did an excellent job, but the remainder of the work was only adequate except for the electric work which was terrible. I cannot recommend enough that you avoid this contractor. His work was incomplete, inadequate, and his communication was abysmal. Our simple project took months with extensive personal time lost trying to communicate with Malek.
