I have only just found Dr. Allen again since she left Riverbend. The reason we ended up at Riverbend initially was because one of our dogs had been mistreated at another vet in the area leaving her with post traumatic stress symptoms. When we first took Bella to meet Dr. Allen, Dr. Allen instantly understood that she needed some special attention. Dr. Allen approached her so gently and carefully that Bella actually wagged her tail and nervously sniffed her. Thus began a trusting relationship with our entire menagerie and us. We have a large crew of dogs and cats. We thrilled to have found her again!!!!

Dr. Amy is a wonderful, thorough, caring vet. My large dog family first became acquainted with her when she started at Riverbend, and because they are an aging crew I wanted them to stay with Dr. Amy when she struck out on her own. The house-call practice fits a much-needed void in this area--that of the itinerant country vet, willing to come to your home and handle matters practically and expediently. Not every wellness visit requires batteries of tests and state of the art equipment, and I will use Riverbend when that need arises. In the meantime, I have 4 dogs who are all different in need and personality, and Dr. Amy treated each one with attention to detail, gentleness, compassion, ingenuity, and genuine affection. She remembered a minor skin issue on one of them that I had completely forgotten! It was enormously convenient for her to come to the house and see all 4 dogs in one visit, without any stress to them whatsoever. I highly recommend this dedicated professional.

Dr. Allen was soooo helpful to me and my dog, as I was about to leave town for a week and a half to the west coast. She was responsive to my calls and emails right up to the day I left. She gave me the peace of mind to leave my dog with the dog sitter and I knew that she would be available if anything came up. THANK YOU so much Dr. Allen! Bella is doing great.

We are SO glad to have discovered Dr. Allen after a couple of years of our home not having any pets. We used to be clients of hers when she was with a practice and am so happy for her to be on her own. There is something very special when a Veterinarian makes house calls...it's more personable, caring, and more comfortable for you and your pet. Dr. Allen has such a gracious, patient, heartfelt personality and she just makes any situation calming. her bedside manner has the animal so calm, and relaxed. She believes in "less is more" and as natural as possible. She has a way of explaining things simply and thoroughly for her clients and believes in teaching her clients, so we can all better our knowledge for our pets. We can't praise her enough - except to say 5 stars and hope that more people find having her take care of their pets as rewarding and special as we do.

My wife and I have had Dr. Amy Allen as our vet for a number of years; first at an animal hospital in Hadley, MA, and more recently on a house call basis. Shes very caring with our cats AND she listens to us when we explain what is going on with them. She also looks out for the best interest of the cat. While she was at the animal hospital she recommended we take our cat to another vet that specialized in a procedure, even though the hospital could do it. She felt his case was challenging and thought he would be better off with a specialist. We were very happy to learn she had started her own business making house calls (we were sad when we found out she wasnt at the animal hospital anymore). When it became time for one of our cats to pass on, Dr. Allen came to the house, and was so kind and compassionate. She was also there when we brought home a new cat from the shelter. We would highly recommend Dr. Allen.

I highly recommend Dr. Allen. She has cared for our cat for over seven years, first at Riverbend and now as an independent vet. She is excellent and intuitive when it comes to treating our cat. When another (out-of-state) vet suggested an expensive and invasive diagnostic procedure, Dr. Allen performed a simple hands-on physical that identified the problem and prescribed a remedy that has ameliorated the symptoms. And not having to wrestle the cat into a carrier for vet appts? Priceless.

In a life threatening emergency I would trust Dr Allen with my own life over my GP. I am not saying my GP is bad, I am saying Dr Allen is amazing. She is the best vet in my oppinion from Northampton to Amherst. I would not roll my cats dice with anyone else. I wish she took humans too.

Dr. Allen is absolutely amazing. I contacted her because my elderly cat Clara was very ill, and needed to be put to sleep. My regular veterinarian did not do house calls and I wanted Clara's passing to be as comfortable as possible- in her own home, on her own bed, surrounded by peace and love. Dr. Allen came to my home within three hours of my phone call. She was overwhelmingly kind and comforting to both Clara and me. Clara's passing was completely serene, which was exactly what I wanted. I CAN NOT recommend Dr. Allen's veterinary services enough. She is, simply, a WONDERFUL veterinarian, and all pets deserve a doctor like her.

There are far better veterinarians in the area than Dr Allen. I would not recommend her. My experiences dealing with her with the care of my animals has certainly been lacking. You need to trust that your veterinarian knows what they are doing and she has not instilled that confidence in me or my family.
