The Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety supports the direction, management and employment of emergency services and resources to ensure the public safety of county residents. It offers a variety of services in the areas of hazard mitigation and homeland security. The department administers the West Nile Control Program, which includes trapping mosquitoes, collecting dead birds, and monitoring horses, people and sentinel chickens to combat the spread of West Nile virus. The Westmoreland County Department of Public Safety has a park police division that provides security services to county residents and visitors. It also offers firefighting and medical services.
