      General Info
      The Grand Lake Fire Department is a small combination fire rescue agency serving the greater Grand Lake area from County Road 4 North to Rocky Mountain National Park. We respond to structure or wildland fires, motor vehicle accidents, technical rope rescue, medical requests for help and everything in between. We are actively involved in emergency response preplanning and in providing the best free public education programs possible. The fire started in the Pine Cone Inn. Reason unknown. Within 30 minutes, all was gone. The fire was hot enough to break windows in the drug store across the street. The Grand Lake Volunteer Fire Department was formed as a result of this fire. Looking North from the ridge across main street. Left top - East end of the Zick Building. Center top was Bill's Cafe, which is now the Emporium. Right top - The Lariet and west portion of the Pharmacy ( now gone ). After the fire, the druggist provided drinks for the fire fighters. One of the men, due to heat exhaustion and a little whiskey, had to be helped home. His wife gave him heck for being drunk!
