- General Info
- In 1972, residents of Jefferson County, Colo., established one of the nation's first open space programs, named Jefferson County Open Space. The organization was founded when the people of Jefferson County voted to tax themselves 0.5 percent on sales to fund planning, acquisition and maintenance of lands and waters for the enjoyment of current and future generations. Since then, with the support of Jefferson County residents, Jefferson County Open Space has been able to preserve, protect and maintain one of Colorado's most valuable assets: its rural land. The organization develops opportunities for outdoor recreation, education and conservation. The organization maintains parks and recreation areas throughout the county and is headquartered in Golden, Colo.
