- Pediatric CareSome podiatrists have their own solo small private practices or clinics where they have a small staff and administrative personnel but many work within group practices. They usually spend time performing surgery in ambulatory surgical centers or hospitals or visiting patients in nursing homes. They typically spend between 30 to 60 hours of week working. Some podiatrists specialize in public health, orthopedics, surgery, or primary care. Some other fields include specialties in geriatrics, dermatology, pediatrics, diabetic foot care and sports medicine.

- UltrasoundWe at Kentlands Foot and Ankle are pleased to offer diagnostic ultrasound in office for immediate injury diagnosis. A diagnostic ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that can help quickly diagnose problems with soft tissue in your foot or ankle. Sound waves are sent out from a probe, collide with body tissue, and return to the probe—creating an image that our Montgomery County podiatrists can use to help diagnose the source of your foot or ankle problems.

- BotoxA little sweat is a good thing. In fact, brain-imaging studies in humans and neurochemical studies in animals have shown evidence that sweat inducing exercise actually makes a stronger brain. However, in a society that demands that you “never let them see you sweat,” excessive perspiration, known medically as hyperhidrosis, can have physiological consequences such as cold and clammy hands, smelly feet and underarms, dehydration, and skin infections secondary to maceration.
- Skin CancerSummer is finally here! The great outdoors is beckoning. Many people tend to forget that their feet and ankles are just as vulnerable to harmful UV rays as the rest of their bodies. Sunlight is a potent source of ultraviolet radiation. Overexposure to the sun can cause a host of serious health issues such as skin cancer, heat exhaustion, and melanoma. At Kentlands Foot and Ankle Center, we want all our patients to feel safe and protected while still enjoying their favorite summer activities! Below you will find signs of skin cancer and tips and tricks to protect your feet from damaging UV rays.

- FungusNail fungus can be both unattractive to look at, as well as painful to deal with. Our PinPointe laser treatment is a procedure that can make your discolored or disfigured toenails cleaner and healthier. With this procedure, our Montgomery County podiatrists use a laser that targets fungus living in and under the nail. The laser passes through the nail without causing any damage to it or to any of the surrounding skin. While the nail may not become clear instantaneously, results can be apparent after the nail has grown out.

- Tennis ElbowIn 2005 Spacca et al. conducted a single-blind randomized study on the effectiveness of rESWT in 62 patients suffering from tennis elbow. The verum group received four doses of 2,000 low-energy impulses of rESWT (Physio SWT, Elettronica Pagani Srl, Milan, Italy) at weekly intervals without local anesthesia, the control group four times 20 impulses. After 6 months the authors observed a pain reduction in the verum group from 5 points to 1 point on the NRS scale, and a pain increase from 5 to 6 points in the control group. The validated DASH score normalized from 38 to 10 points in the verum group while it remained stable in the control group (38 vs. 35 points).rESWT applied to the Achilles tendon

- General PodiatryIn every podiatry practice, there is a subset of patients who experience an inherently embarrassing issue that warrants intervention. It’s time to solve these problems!
- Achilles TendonitisI had been dealing with Achilles tendonitis for over five years. I've been to seven different medical professionals for treatment of my horrible heel pain in the back of my heel where the Achilles attaches to the calcaneus. I had visited every high-priced foot surgeon in town, with NO success. I was at wits end and thought I'd try one more doctor before resorting to surgery.
- Bunions ProblemsThis condition is often referred to as pronation. All people pronate to some degree, but excessive pronation can lead to problems such as bunions and heel pain in adults. A large part of this tendency to pronate is inherited from the parents. It is normal for children to be flat footed up until the age of 6 years because of how the baby is positioned in utero and the development of the feet and legs after birth. If your child is over 6 years old, has one foot that is positioned much differently than the other foot, complains of pain or night cramps, or if a family member has had problems due to flat feet, you should see your podiatrist.

- HammertoesSome podiatrist specialists complete extra training in the area of foot and ankle reconstruction that result from the effects of physical trauma or diabetes. There are also surgeons that perform surgery of a cosmetic nature to correct bunions and hammertoes.
- Heel SpursA third cause of heel pain is a heel spur. A heel spur occurs when the tissues of the plantar fascia undergo a great deal of stress, leading to a separation of the ligament from the heel bone entirely. This results in a pointed fragment of bone on the ball of the foot, known as a heel spur.

- Ingrown ToenailsThe branch of medicine that is focused on the treatment, diagnosis, and study of disorders of the lower leg, ankle and foot is referred to as podiatry. Because people often spend a great deal of their time on their feet, many problems in this area can occur. A person seeks help from the field of podiatry when they need treatment for heel spurs, bunions, arch problems, deformities, ingrown toenails, corns, foot and ankle problems, infections, and problems with the foot that are related to diabetes and additional diseases.
- Foot OrthoticsOver-the-counter foot orthotics are usually found at drugstores. The use of orthotics, in general, can be very helpful in eliminating foot discomfort quickly. For chronic foot pain, we always advise our patients to get fitted for custom foot orthotics. Precise measurements of your foot are documented and sent to a lab where they will make your orthotics. It ensures that you receive all the support your feet need.

- Plantar FasciitisOne of the main causes of heel pain is a condition known as plantar fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a band of tissue that extends along the bottom of the foot, from the toe to the bottom of the heel. A rip or tear in this ligament can cause inflammation of these tissues, resulting in heel pain. People who do not wear proper fitting shoes are often at risk of developing problems such as plantar fasciitis. Unnecessary stress from ill fitting shoes, weight change, excessive running, and wearing non-supportive shoes on hard surfaces are all causes of plantar fasciitis.
