The Ruth Mott Foundation promotes community vitality through the support of programs focused on arts, beautification and health promotion. The foundation caters to the needs of children and adults in Flint in Michigan. It employs more than 25 staff members and provides volunteer opportunities. The Ruth Mott Foundation operates a housing community, Applewood, which spreads across an area of over 30 acres. The community coordinates a variety of public events and festivals. The foundation offers a range of enrichment activities that includes music, theater, dance, media, photography, storytelling, and arts and crafts. In addition, it engages people in watershed enhancement, tree planting, community gardening and weed removal tasks.
