Founded in 1973, Hartwood Foundation is a nonsectarian, nonprofit organization that offers a variety of health care services for people with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities. The organization operates several group residences, as well as maintains a more than 5-bed facility that provides respite and emergency services. It also offers a variety of family support services and conducts enrichment programs. Hartwood Foundation provides job training and various employment opportunities. The organization additionally offers financial support to its patients. It provides counseling and nursing services. The organization is a member of the American Association on Mental Retardation, American Network of Community Options and Resources and State Association of Community Rehabilitation Programs. Located in Springfield, Va., Hartwood Foundation is certified by the Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation & Substance Abuse Services.
