Mother’s Day provides a wonderful opportunity for the whole family to gather together and celebrate and  honor the mothers who care for us all year long. So the last thing you want is your mother to spend her special day in the kitchen preparing the family meal. It’s little wonder that across the United States, Mother’s Day is one of the most popular days for dining out during the year. Here are some great options for taking your mother out with the family to dine and giving her a Mother’s Day she will always remember.

  1. Take her to brunch: Mother’s Day brunch has long been a tradition in the U.S. Combining breakfast and lunch foods, brunch is typically a late morning, early afternoon meal: perfect timing if your family attends church or if you have late risers in your group but still would like to host an earlier gathering. This is also a great option for families with younger children who need to get home for naptime.
  2. Find a family style restaurant: If you want to create a home-style feel for mom but simply don’t have the time to cook, a restaurant that serves its food family style can be the next best thing. Here, entrees are presented in the middle of the table rather than individually plated, so that family members are able to serve themselves. What results is a comfortable, easy dining experience that encourages family members to interact and truly enjoy one another’s company.
  3. Gather at a buffet: If you have difficult-to-please family members or children or seniors who will enjoy the experience more if they don’t have to wait for food, or you just want to treat mom to a wide assortment of her favorite dishes, then a buffet is a wonderful option. If you have a restaurant or two in mind already, see if they offer a special buffet for Mother’s Day. Many restaurants that aren’t normally buffet-style will offer this style of dining on this special day.
  4. Go for kid-friendly: If you have a large family and/or there are a number of young children in the group who won’t be so easily hushed in a formal setting, then you can take a lot of the stress away from mom by finding a restaurant that caters to the younger set. Remember that just because a restaurant is kid-friendly doesn’t mean you will have to sacrifice quality. In fact, with a little research you will find there are a wide range of restaurants that serve delicious food but also retain a more casual atmosphere so that mom can relax and enjoy her day.
  5. Take mom to tea: Even as coffee shops become more and more popular these days, so do unique, often fancy, charming little places that serve high tea. If your mom is more of the snacking type and there are only a few people who will be gathering, this is a great option and one she isn’t likely to soon forget. Along with an assortment of fine teas (served formally from a tea set), mom will be able to enjoy petite sandwiches, tiny quiches, scones with preserves and Devonshire cream, savory bites like meat pies, sometimes salads, and a wide range of delicious desserts, with plenty of time for conversation in between each course.

In most cases, finding the perfect place to dine for Mother’s Day will depend on what your mother likes and the various needs of the others in your group. When in doubt, always cater to the group (especially with young children involved), as the best gift you can give mom is a peaceful meal enjoyed with the family.
