What is a Pet Spa?
A pet spa is a delightful place where your favorite furry friend will be spoiled and pampered. Today’s pet spas cater to a growing number of pet owners who are looking for something beyond traditional grooming and boarding facilities, and pet spas now offer a range of services which cater to pet health, beauty and well being.
Pet Spa Services
Services which are offered at pet spa boutiques vary widely depending on the type of spa you choose for your pet, but here are a few services which many spas offer for their pet clientele:
- Extended grooming services which include deep shampoos and conditions, nail grooming, tear stain removal, ear cleaning, anal gland expression, specialized hair styles and teeth cleaning services.
- Boarding services that include doggy daycare with extras such as play times, one on one interactions with a trainer or ‘pet entertainer,’ group play times with other animals, a pet playground with plenty of fun toys, daily walks, and quiet nap times.
- Services intended to relax pets, or reduce anxiety in anxious pets, which include warm therapeutic baths, pet massages, warm towel wraps and hydrotherapies.
Pet Spa Rules and Regulations
Pet spas may have a few rules and regulations for pets – particularly if you will be boarding your pet at the spa or participating in the daycare programs. All pets must be vaccinated against rabies before they may be admitted into a pet spa and dogs must be vaccinated against kennel cough. Pet spas may also have regulations requiring additional vaccines against distemper and respiratory viruses.
Pet spas may also require that your pet is well behaved and socialized. If your pet has behavioral problems or has not yet been socialized with other animals, enroll your pet in a training and socialization program before you use any daycare or boarding spa services which places pets together in play areas.
Choosing the Right Pet Spa
With so many pet spa boutiques now available for pet owners, you can select a spa which will cater to your pet’s specific needs. Most spas accept cat and dog clients – but some spas are more centered on grooming services whereas other spas offer a wider range of relaxation therapies. There are even some spas for pets which incorporate veterinarian care and rehabilitation for pets which are recovering from surgery or trauma. To make sure you choose the right spa for your pet, call around and check with the types of services each spa offers.
