The Three Top Spots For Mexico Vacations
There are few countries more beautiful than Mexico, and many tourists have had a wonderful time south of the border. If you’re thinking about visiting Mexico, there are three major areas that are extremely popular for Mexico vacations.
The Yucatan Peninsula
The Yucatan Peninsula is probably the single most popular destination for Mexico vacations. Sometimes known as the Riviera Maya or the Caribbean Riviera, the Yucatan is home to such lovely cities as Cancun and Playa del Carmen. It features beautiful white-sand beaches and a warm, sunny climate. The world’s second largest reef, the Great Maya Reef, is just offshore, making it a popular spot for diving.
As its name suggests, the Riviera Maya was a major part of Mayan civilization, and there are many ancient sites to explore. The most famous and best-preserved, Chichén Itzá, is only a few hours from Cancun. Chichén Itzá is a very popular among tourists interested in archaeology.
The Mexican Riviera
On the other coast stretches the Mexican Riviera, two thousand miles of Pacific beaches between Ensenada and Acapulco. The Mexican Riviera is very popular among Pacific cruise lines, so why not make your Mexico vacation a cruise?
While there are numerous cities and resort towns along the Mexican Riviera, one of the most beautiful is Puerto Vallarta. While a growing city, Puerto Vallarta also has a well-maintained historic “Old Town”, meaning visitors can experience both modern and historical Mexico. In addition, the city is rapidly becoming one of Mexico’s centers for the fine arts.
While the central region doesn’t have endless white-sand beaches, it does have numerous World Heritage sites featuring a variety of Spanish and Mesoamerican architecture. Mexico City itself is of particular interest as one of North America’s major cultural centers. Its historic sites include the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the floating gardens of Xochimilco, and the Plaza de la Constitucion, just to name a few. The capital boasts hundreds of museums, galleries, theaters and concert halls. There’s always something to do in Mexico City.
In fact, there’s always something to do anywhere in Mexico. There’s too much to do and see that you’ll want to go on several Mexico vacations. As soon as you come back, you’ll want to start planning to go again.
