Lumineers® can help you achieve a sparkling, white smile without the pain associated with traditional veneers. Over the course of your life, your teeth may become discolored as a result of a number of causes. Every day life and eating causes some discoloration, which is exacerbated if you engage in bad habits such as smoking, drinking lots of red wine or coffee, chewing tobacco or otherwise eating foods likely to stain your teeth. While teeth whitening can help you achieve a white smile, veneers are typically the best way to get pristine and pearly whites. Unfortunately, attaching the veneers to your teeth has long been a painful and sometimes time consuming process. Lumineers are an advance in dental technology that allows you to avoid the pain associated with traditional veneers while still achieving the same- or better- results.

What are Lumineers?

Lumineers® are special veneers placed on your teeth. You generally can have Lumineers put in with only two dental visits. On your first visit, your dentist will take molds of your teeth and get ready to make the veneers. On your first visit, your dentist will take the impressions of your teeth, and those impressions will be sent to a lab so the veneers can be prepared.

Once the veneers are ready, you can return to the dentists office to have the Lumineers applied. A local anesthetic is generally applied to numb the area around the gums and root of the teeth. The tooth will be etched slightly in order to create a good surface for the veneer to attach to. The major difference here between Lumineers and traditional veneers is that only the surface of the tooth is etched with Lumineers. No actual sensitive material is touched or removed, so the pain is minimal or non-existent. The Lumineers veneers are then painless adhered to the surface of the tooth.

The Lumineers are also very thin veneers, and are translucent, so your teeth look natural and the veneers replicate the enamel that would normally be on the surface of your tooth. It is the thin nature of the lumineer veneer that helps to make the procedure painless; since they are so thin, no filing of your tooth is required in order to apply the Lumineers veneer covering to your existing teeth.

After the visit, you see the improved, white and shiny teeth immediately. There is also no lingering pain after the procedure, so you can go home and show off your smile.
