Hiring or Renting a Limo

If you are planning a wedding, graduation, party, or other event, hiring the right limo can make the entire affair go smoothly, and set the tone for a memorable experience. While hiring a limousine is not much different than renting a car, some aspects are unique to the industry.

Getting the right limo for your needs

Are you and your guests going to a concert? Prom? Wedding? Birthday party? How many are in your party? Will you need ice and/or beverages, and snacks? Letting the rental company know what function you will be needing the limousine for and what amenities you will like will help them in selecting the vehicle that best suits you. Be sure to ask about music also.

Not all limos are alike. The size you need depends on how many people are in your party. The style you need depends on your personal preference as well as your budget. Stretch limos and stretch models (Hummers, pick-ups, and the like) all have different price points.

Make your limousine reservations early

You should begin your search for limousine companies as soon as possible. At the very least, you should make your reservations no later than a month before you need it. Certain celebrations, require a little more lead time. Weddings, milestone anniversaries, and other events that may require several limos of varying sizes should be reserved eight to twelve months in advance.

Be diligent

When hiring a limousine service, be thorough. Check the company’s insurance and driver qualifications. Ask about package deals as well as hourly, and go over the contract and ask about every item for which you will be charged. Watch for hidden fees, such as extra-mileage charges, or extra time fees, that can drive your costs up. Also, ask about tipping policy. Some companies include the driver tip in the fee while others leave it up to the renter.

Typically, packages offer the best overall deal for limo services, but if you need a limo for just a short time (like picking someone up at the airport), and hourly rate may be best. In any event, expect to have to use a credit card to reserve the vehicle(s).

Special occasions call for special touches. Arranging for a limo service to transport your guests to and from their locations creates a relaxed yet exciting atmosphere and enhances the entire evening.
