Janitor equipment can be a scary area for many companies. You know that you need to have your office cleaned regularly to help maintain employee health and productivity, but you might not know about what is necessary to make sure that this cleaning can take place, and who is expected to provide it. If you hire a dedicated janitor for your company, you will have to provide him or her with all of the necessary supplies to clean your office – but what if you decide to hire a janitorial service? These types of questions may be intimidating at first glance, but if you look closely at the question, you’ll find janitor equipment to be not such a daunting topic after all.

Janitor Equipment: What is Required

There are a lot of things that a janitor will need to perform his or her duties. Floor buffers and scrubbers are necessary, as are mops, brooms, window cleaner, other household and commercial cleaning products, and paper towels. In addition, janitors might need a cart to help move this equipment around. A good janitor will also need trash bags to replace when he empties the trash cans, as well as bulk quantities of soap to refill soap dispensers in bathrooms and kitchen areas. Most janitors will also need paper towels for towel dispensers in these same areas.

If you hire a dedicated janitor, you will be responsible for either renting the larger pieces of equipment, like floor scrubbers, or providing them, as well as for providing the other necessary supplies the janitor needs to keep your office space clean. Hiring a janitorial service is a different matter, however. Depending on the terms of your contract, a janitorial service may provide all of the specialized equipment and cleaning supplies that you need as a part of the contract. You may still be required to provide items such as hand soap and paper towels for the janitor to fill the bathroom dispensers with, but for the most part, the janitorial service will provide everything you need.

Many janitorial services have branched out into providing other types of services including maintenance, light landscaping work, and other services that are involved in the operation of a successful commercial office building. If you are dealing with one of these services you will want to make sure that you negotiate specifically in the contract as to what janitor equipment you may be required to provide for company to do its job.
