- ArthritisGraves disease is an autoimmune disease. This means that the immune system that defends us from infections is attacking our own body. You may have heard of other diseases where the immune system attacks the patient’s own body. In rheumatoid arthritis, the white blood cells (immune system) attack the joints. In lupus, the lungs are attacked. In the commonest type of Graves disease the white blood cells attack the thyroid gland, releasing thyroid hormone. Testing the blood for the level of thyroid hormone confirms the diagnosis. This hormone affects many systems of the body.
- ColonoscopyDepending on the type of procedure you choose, the procedures are usually done with mild intravenous anesthesia similar to during colonoscopy. Some procedures can be performed with local injections alone with Valium by mouth in selected patients. When incisions are made, excess fat deposits and skin are removed, and muscles are tightened and lifted. The folds of the eyelid conceal these incisions after healing. When the procedure is complete, Dr. Schiller will close the incisions using removable sutures.

He trained in oculoplastic and facial plastic surgery in New York City and Paris. He is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery ( ASOPRS ), an elite society of 500 members specializing in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face. Admission to ASOPRS is strictly limited to physicians with specialized training in oculofacial plastic surgery, and who meet these criteria: extensive surgical experience, high scores in rigorous testing dealing with all aspects of diagnosis and treatment, and a significant academic contribution to the field.
- Laser Eye SurgeryPtosis: This is a condition in which the eyelid does not open all the way, often because of loosening of the muscle that opens the eye (levator muscle).. This often produces a tired appearance and peripheral vision may be impaired. A person may be born with ptosis, it may develop with age, or it may be caused by trauma or after eye surgery.
- ThyroidThyroid disease is often the  result of the body’s antibodies attacking the thyroid gland, resulting in hyper metabolism. The same antibodies may attack the muscles and fatty tissue around the eyes, resulting in thyroid eye disease. The swelling of the fatty tissues and muscles affects the eyes’ ability to move together, which can cause double vision. In severe cases, the swelling may displace the eye in the socket, causing bulging that makes it difficult or impossible for the eyelids to close fully, and leads to loss of the eye’s natural appearance. If left untreated, the condition may result in damage to other parts of the eye including the cornea and optic nerve, wth the possiblility of permanent vision loss if untreated.
- X-Rays
- Computed TomographyThe inflammation usually lasts from six months to two years. The attack on the tissues behind the eye can happen before the thyroid is attacked, at the same time, or later. In most patients with Graves disease the immune system attacks only the thyroid and not the eyes. Graves eye disease is much more common in people who smoke or are around heavy smokers. In some patients the attack can be on the tissues behind the eye and not on the thyroid gland, so that the thyroid blood tests are negative. In that case the diagnosis is made by seeing enlarged muscles or fat behind the eyes on the CT scan (a special x-ray), and sometimes by a special blood test for chemicals (antibodies) attacking the thyroid.

- BotoxA dermal filler is a biological or synthetic product that is injected beneath the skin to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles by filling them, and to restore loss of volume in the face as we lose fat, muscle, and even bone as we age. Though similar to other injectables like Botox, which works by preventing facial muscles from contracting, fillers can be used to add volume to hollow areas of the face including cheek and under-eye areas. The procedure is is performed in the office, is minimally invasive with a short recovery time, and it provides excellent results with few side effects.
- Brow LiftDr. Schiller offers a minimally-invasive, endoscopic forehead and brow lift procedure. Through small incisions, the brow and eyelid areas and forehead tissues are lifted to lift the brows and reduce horizontal wrinkles and frown lines. This results in minimal scars and bruising and takes about an hour. The procedure is conducted in an outpatient operating room setting under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.
- Eyelid SurgeryEyelid surgery can be performed on the upper and lower lids, or both. During the procedure, youll be administered mild intravenous anesthesia. Next, incisions are made on the eyelid to remove excess skin, reposition fat deposits, tighten sagging muscles, and lift the cheeks. The incisions are then closed using sutures.
- Plastic SurgeryLower eyelids can be a problem with age, and bulging of fat gives a tired or sad appearance. Most Asian patients do not need any skin removed from the lower eyelids, and so a laser approach through the inside of the eyelid is used (transconjunctival blepharoplasty). This often leaves no bruising or black and blue, and allows most of the recovery to occur in five days to a week. As the skin is not cut, there is no scarring. In cases with more severe aging changes of the lower eyelid and midface or cheek, Dr. Schiller performs his signature lower blepharoplasty with midface/cheek lift. Dr. Schiller is well known among his peers for this unique rejuvenating surgical technique which was recently published in the leading plastic surgery journal and which Dr. Schiller has presented at numerous plastic surgery meetings. Click here to see Dr. Schiller’s article in the journal
- Face LiftExtremely happy with the outcome of my upper and lower bleph with mid face lift and couldn’t imagine it turning out any better. Great doctor and good recovery. Swelling from the mid face lift took a lot longer than I anticipated, but after 3 months things settled down to normal and eye bags are 100% gone. Amazing.
