- Dental SealantsThe team at East Berlin Smiles makes it a practice to give back to our neighbors both locally and globally. We do charity work and sponsor worthwhile community events as often as possible. Dr Cockley, sometimes with members of her team, has taken dental mission trips to Vietnam with Operation Smile in 2009 and 2011 and to Belize with International Health Outreach in 2014 and 2015. These trips allow us to serve the underprivileged who have no access to dental care. Closer to home, Dr. Cockley has provided free dentistry through Smile because We Care, Donated Dental Services, Dentistry from the Heart, Harrisburg Mission of Mercy, Sealant Saturday, and Hope for Tomorrow, an organization that sponsors free dental days in the Northern VA/Washington DC area. She is planning to travel to Zambia, Africa in 2019!
- Fillings
- VeneersA great smile can be marred by gaps, staining, and crooked or oddly shaped teeth. One answer could be porcelain veneers. These thin coverings bond to your teeth in a way that looks very natural, and they’re made from advanced dental ceramic. We also are very pleased to offer DURAthin™ veneers that are as thin as a contact lens and as translucent as real teeth. The superb thinness means less preparation is required, and anesthesia may not even be necessary!
- CrownsMany treatments that normally require incisions with scalpels can now be completed with an FDA-approved soft tissue laser, which is effective, safe, and virtually eliminates pain. We are able to speed up recovery time and obtain better long-term results for the cosmetic treatment of uneven gummy smile lines, cleaning and re-contouring inflamed tissue around crowns, and treating painful canker sores and mouth ulcers with instant relief! All with virtually no post-op discomfort!
- Bridges
- Dental Bonding
- Root Canal TreatmentDid you ever have a dental visit with no cavities but then at the next one, six months later, you need a filling that seems surprisingly large, given that you didn’t have a cavity before? The reality is that the cavity was there six months before – it just wasn’t big enough to show on X-rays, and it was also too small for the dentist to see yet. Using special fluorescence technology, SOPROLIFE can find cavities years earlier, when the cavity can be removed and repaired with a small invisible bonded filling. Some patients have complained of tooth sensitivity, or various levels of pain, yet exams and X-rays couldn’t pinpoint the source. Sensitivity toothpaste doesn’t help the problem. Dentists have even had to perform root canals to eliminate the pain or sensitivity, when the actual source turned out to be decay. SOPROLIFE can find previously undetected decay and, once identified, allow us to remove the discomfort and leave you with a healthy smile.
- DenturesThe biggest complaint we hear from denture-wearers is how often their dentures move around or shift out of place. Our solution is to design dentures that are natural-looking and fit so well they won’t slip! What some call a “breakthrough” in denture technique involves the ability to anchor the denture plate so securely that you can stop worrying about the foods you eat or the embarrassment of moving dentures when talking to someone. If you wear dentures now, ask us about your options at your next visit. Your life could be so much easier!
- Dental ImplantsAccidents can knock out teeth, too, but the most common reason people lose a tooth is the advancement of gum disease. So, is losing teeth a real problem? You’d be surprised. Even a single tooth going missing can make the other teeth shift into the space, throwing off your bite, causing pain or at least affecting chewing and nutrient absorption. It just gets worse from there. Affected speech, face shape changing, and bone loss in the jaw can make you seem to age faster. Missing teeth make it harder to chew, so people often choose soft foods and more carbohydrates, which can lead to weight gain. The best way to treat one or even several missing teeth is with dental implants. They can be made to look so natural that even a dentist has to look hard to tell the difference.
- Oral Surgery
- Gum SurgeryIf we asked you to guess the primary cause of tooth loss, would you say tooth decay? Many people would, but it’s not! The main reason is gum disease, which you might not even notice right up until you lose your teeth. If there are symptoms, they can be subtle, such as gums bleeding when you floss or brush and teeth that shift or feel loose. If you’ve been told you need gum surgery, you will be relieved to hear that it’s possible to control gum disease with a variety of non-surgical methods.
- BracesIt’s harder to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy if you wear braces. This means you must be even more of a fanatic about brushing and flossing, or two years later your teeth will be beautifully straight but loaded with cavities. Plaque can easily accumulate around the brackets, which can cause “white spots,” damage to the enamel, decay, and cavities.
- Teeth WhiteningMany people would like teeth that dazzle. When they’re whiter, teeth look healthier. It’s easier to make this happen than many people think. Achieving your smile’s whitest look is only possible with a bleaching process that’s professionally supervised. East Berlin Smiles is pleased to offer our patients a combination of in-office power whitening and take-home trays for maximum effectiveness.
