      General Info
      The Iowa Insurance Division investigates consumer complaints and prosecutes companies, agents and brokers engaged in unfair trade practices. The division supervises insurance businesses transacted in Iowa, including health maintenance organizations and mutual hospital and health service corporations. The Iowa Insurance Division grants permissions to companies that wish to sell insurance and has general control over various aspects of their business. Its fraud investigation bureau confronts the problems of insurance fraud by prevention, investigation and prosecution of fraudulent insurance acts to reduce the amount of money used to pay fraudulent claims. The division operates a consumer affairs bureau that handles complaints and questions from the public and conducts investigations and brings action against insurance companies and agents. The Iowa Insurance Division maintains a securities bureau that administers laws that regulate and investigate the sale of securities. It is governed by the city of Des Moines in Iowa.
