Fantastico!!!

We have been going to Mamma's for several years now and it is bar none, my favorite restaurant!!! The food has never been a disappointment. I have read some reviews saying the staff was rude, but I have never been treated unfairly. If you need hand holding this is not the establishment for you, but if you want an authentic Italian family experience....this is the place for you! The food will never disappoint you!

Disrespectful

Mamma Disalvo's has long been a staple of the greater Dayton area. The food is beyond reproach, bartenders and drink selection is better than average and wait staff is mediocre. Mamma's also has Earned a reputation for playing favorites when it comes to seating customers.

If you want to feel like a second or third class citizen (even after frequenting an establishment for 20+ years) visit Mamma Disalvo's. Don't be surprised when couple after couple walk in the door, glad hand and are seated before you. First come first serve, yeah right.

In general they are disrespectful and my family will never frequent their establishment again.

If you are looking for a recommendation ask for Doug at Brio. A few miles away but worlds apart. The food is as good or better and Doug (the general manager of Brio at the Greene) is one of the classiest restaurateurs I have ever encountered.

Cheers.

P.S. My user name should read Disappointment. My blind rage had an adverse effect on key strokes/spelling.

Just like Italy

The atmosphere is very quaint and close to some of the restaurants we visited in Italy (and "little Italy" in NYC)

The service was great too. We didn't really have to wait to have our drinks refilled, yet the waitress wasn't hovering.

We went around 8PM, so it wasn't crowded, but you could tell everyone was having a great time.

The food....DELICIOUS!!!!!! The bread was warm and fresh.

We had the fried ravioli for our appetizer. It was extremely tasteful and the sauce was as if it was just made!

The salad was wonderfully flavored; although my hubby doesn't care for the oil/vinegar type, but I enjoyed it very much. It was not the normal iceburg lettuce either. Oh and they had shavings of cheese in it...yummy!

I had the Eggplant Rollitini Al Forno. All I can say is OH MY GOSH! EXCELLENT! The size portion was enough to feed two (ooooh lunch tomorrow). I also had a side order of penne pasta. I am VERY fussy about the tenderness of my pasta and have had to send my dinner back at many restaurants...NOT THIS ONE! I explained how I wanted it to the waitress (like I normally do) and it was EXACTLY like I wanted it! BRAVO!

My hubby had the Homemade Gnocchi with sausage & pesto sauce. It was VERY good! He really enjoyed his meal too. It was a decent size portion and he also took some home.

We had NO room for dessert!!

We will definitely will be returning for another meal. You can NOT go wrong...go...enjoy....MANGIA…MANGIA!!

Pizza

I’ve been desperately looking for a good pizza since moving to the area last summer. Mama Disalvo’s pizza was a huge disappointment. While the restaurant atmosphere was wonderful the pizza reminded me something I would buy in a supermarket frozen section.

Call ahead for a reservation they said they didnt take revelation. They told me it is first come first served. Got there they said it would be an hour wait. There was no one in line and a lot of empty tables. I will never go back they treated me very rudely.

May have a great place in 1979, not so in 2007

The food is what passed for Italian food in the 1950's in this country: heavy red sauced pasta thrown at the diner with screeches of "everythin' goin'OK here, need anythin'else?" masquerading for service. The lasagna looked like a flattened out flame-singed miasma of red and yellow thickened puddles, and was at best mediocre. ($14.95) The Canneloni Special was slightly better, but 2 cannelloni with some ziti on the side with same red sauce and cheese encrusted on top for $14.50 was an outrage at that price! The begining soup, the pastina, was an overly salted chicken broth with decayed pasta and parmesan in the bottom. Not a great beginning by any means. We drove 40 miles to come to this restaurant based on reviews on various websites. I guess superlative reviews can also be misleading or most people are taken in by what they call the Italian family atmosphere (noisy, brawly racket!!!OK if the food is great). But MEDIOCRE food for HIGH PRICES, an affront to Southern Italian Cuisines.
