I recently saw the ad in Elle magazine that Jon Richard Salon was voted #1 salon in RI so I made my appt. The stylist I saw was Desirae, she was very knowledgable and took her time to determine exactly how I wanted my hair color... It was the best color I've ever had! I also had my eyebrows waxed by Jamie who was very sweet and did a great job! My appointments are already booked to go back!

I'm a big fan of this salon. It's difficult to find a place where you can get a decent, professional men's cut in the Providence area. Generally, around here, the options are: guido, thug, boy's cut, or.......Supercuts. Sure, you can go to Newbury St. in Boston, spend a ton of money, and hang out in some hipster salon – and, if you really know where to go, I’m sure both the atmosphere and talent is great. But, simply going somewhere on Newbury Street certainly won't guarantee you a good haircut. Presumably, it just narrows the chances that you won't. I don't know about you, but I'm not risking an entire morning or afternoon going to some salon in Boston, dropping a ton of money, and then walking away disappointed - all for the mere privilege of saying I have a haircut that I got on Newbury Street. Hell no. And, good news for me, I don't have to.
Jon Richard Salon combines great quality with great atmosphere. Not pretentious. Never over-priced. Just good quality service in a professional (and rather slick) atmosphere. To me, if you find a place that you can trust with your hair, it doesn’t matter if it’s on Park Ave in NYC or Park Ave in Cranston – stick with that place. I’ll stick with Jon Richard.

Sheila Buchanan is by far the best, friendliest and most talented hair stylists I have ever been to. She works MIRACLES! Now my hair always looks runway ready. Her ability to play with color and tone, while adding fun, fresh layers and styling leaves you walking out feeling like a celebrity every time. I have VERY long hair, and always need highlights, a cut and blow dry…no small task. Sheila is so personable, and the time in her chair is always enjoyable. She also gives a little extra TLC during the shampoo and conditioning, which I personally love…completely relaxing and stress relieving. Don’t wait to schedule an appt with here ASAP…she is AMAZING! I’ve recommended so many friends and family members and they all rave about her. One visit and you will be a customer for life….I know I am!

I couldn't agree more with LMC3181.. I too have been going to this salon for 2 years seeing Sheila. The salon staff is knowledgeable and professional and Sheila's cut and color's are second to none.
I have referred many people to this salon, and the stylists because there first concern is their client! If you want a cut, color or style that people will continue to comment on, try this salon and be sure to ask for Sheila!

I have been going to Jon Richard Salon since their opening in 2001. I love my stylist Sheila, and the rest of the staff is also great. In regards to the review about them being fakes, I have been going there for so long, I can honestly say that I know Jonathan and Richard pretty well; yes they are brothers, and yes they are from Boston. True story. One could deduce that they started their careers in their hometown (of Boston). So as a faithfully satisfied customer, I wanted to throw that out there….
As far as the services go, my hair has consistently looked so good (not to brag), that I am a walking advertisement for my stylist. My friends, family, and colleagues have all followed me there, and it has spread to their friends and family. Talk about word-of-mouth advertising. I am also obsessed with Laura, their esthetician, who has been there since the beginning. She really knows her stuff (one look at her own skin, and you will be convinced), she uses the best products, and gives a phenomenal spray tan. I have been in several weddings recently, and have opted to have my makeup airbrushed by Laura—best decision ever! It looks great in pictures and in person, and when everyone else’s makeup had worn off or ran in the summer heat, mine was flawless.

Pretty much what the John Richard crew has done from day 1. Throw out a bunch of stories, create a past that includes stories of time spent in Boston and other major cities and just wait it out.
At the end of the day, the work isn't bad, assuming you get one of the owners on a good day. Every now and then one of their stylists will come through with a job well done. Beyond that, it's pretty much all smoke and mirrors. If you want a big city caliber hair cut and color, take a drive to Boston, throw down some money on Newbury street.
If you want a job that will surpass many local salons and mall chains, Jon Richard is a great choice. The customer service will be lacking, there will be stories of grandeur, but hey it is Rhode Island

I have going to the Jon Richard Salon for years now and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. I recently wanted a new look and Richard was very open to the idea and made me look like a million bucks. I have been getting comliments ever since. The atmosphere is very professional, clean and welcoming. Laura also does an awesome job. I had a microdermabrasion treatment and it was wonderful. My skin looks amazing.
The staff at Jon Richard Salon is always there to make you have a GREAT DAY!

I have been a client of the salon for the past few years. Everyone is always super friendly and very accommodating to my schedule. I can always count on Michele and Richard for a great color and cut. They have yet to disappoint me!! Laura also takes care of all my waxing. I recently decided to treat myself to a microdermabrasion treatment. My skin has never felt so soft and smooth!! Since the treatment I have had numerous complements on my skin. Always a great experience!!!!

Danielle has been doing my hair for a little over 2 years and I coudn't be happier. When I go in for my appointments I am her main focus and my color is wonderful. She does hi-lites and low-lites along with a cut. I receive more compliments than ever before.
If you are looking for a new stylist you should definately book an appt. with Danielle.
OMG her blow outs are great you walk out feeling and looking amazing.
PS. Bring a little cash with you the Salon does not put tips on credit cards.

My experience with the salon has been mixed. The stylists are good, however they are not professional and do not make their clients feel like top priority. The DD, CVS, and lunch runs take place while you are sitting in the chair. Cig breaks are also occuring during appointments or inbetween leaving the client waiting for the stylist to finish his smoke. If you want to feel like a priority to your stylist, I wouldn't recommend this salon. If it doesn't matter to you, then give it a shot!

I just got the BEST haircut from Richard of Jon Richard's Salon. My hair has never looked sooo good. He made sure every hair on my head looked perfect. He also explained everything he was doing so I could repeat it when I got home. They entire staff was upbeat and cheerful. It has been quite a while since I had my hair cut, so they requested I come in for a consultation to go over exactly what I wanted and what I didn't want before my scheduled haircut which put me at ease. Thank you Richard you are wonderful, I will be back again!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great experience, I was impressed at how friendly everyone was. They were all realy down to earth for such an up-scale salon...it was really nice to see!!!! My harstylists was attentive to me and took the time to teach me about my hair...it was very helpful.
I have to say though, I read all the reviews before I wrote mine and the negative reviews really sound like it is from someone with a personal issue. I say this because I don't think it is fair for a whole salon to receive a negative review for someone's inability to deal with whatever personal problem they have.
Great atmosphere but more importantly great work. Finally a place a guy can get a professional cut.
My wife started going first and has been very happy with her cuts and colors and recommended I give it a try. I don't exactly have the hair I used to and had fallen into a routine of barbershop & quick cuts (you know the places) - but gave it a shot over the holidays. Finally a trendy place a guy can get a cut without feeling: a: I am in a women's salon, or b: I don't have the hair to be in this hiphop ""kids"" salon. My wife and I have lived most our lives in bigger metro cities (Boston, NYC, LA, Philly) but have settled in RI to raise our kids and found this place by accident (we had stopped at Spikes - great hot dogs by the way). The place has a very professional, trendy feel and in my case the stylist (Jonathan) took time to work with me - not just put me in the chair and clip it short. I got a great cut and my wife thinks I look great too. Very happy with this shop and will continue to go back.

RE: 'wow the owner does like to toot his own horn' & 'are you serious?'
to me, this doesn't sound like tooting his own horn. sounds more pathetic than anything.
i was checking out the reviews because i was thinking of making an appointment. however, after reading the owner's comment on the negative review, i changed my mind. to see him just totally bash the negative reviewer was so unprofessional. it's always nice to see something more like ""i am sorry you had such a bad experience in our salon. we take pride in what we do, which is why so many of our customers come back to us year after year. if we knew the issues you were having, we would have gladly fixed it to your liking."" what a turn off.
gave 3 stars because it was the fairest thing to do. for all i know, they might actually do good work. i guess i will never find out!

I was reading the reviews on this salon the first one is a bad one ...then I noticed a response for a ID naterella
which from what it said that he or she has'nt taken a client in over a year .....so I take it that would be the owner....but funny thing is they wrote a reveiw on the salon with that same ID naterella
like they were a client......talk about tooting their own horn.......lol

I moved into the area and thought from their write up that this would be the perfect place to go for my hair. I have lived in NYC and Boston but have never experienced such a bogus salon in my life. They are NOT from Newbury Street in Boston and their lack of skills or knowledge of how to color and cut hair is evident. They are brothers who act more like lovers, a little sick if you ask me.
They knew nothing about Newbury Street and skated around the exact location of where they worked. Their educational background was nothing more than a stylist who worked at Supercuts. The Salon is not esthetically pleasing and the staff is not welcoming. Attitude is high in this salon and I use the term salon loosely, no one in this salon has the right to exude attitude. My hair color when I Ieft went from a beautiful blonde to that of a copper pipe. My haircut was uneven and jagged. I was mortified when I left and wouldn't refer this place to my worst enemy. Proceed with caution ... you would probably get a better haircut at a pet grooming salon and a better color at a auto body dealership.
Where salon owners need to toot their own horn and build up hype, it is evident that the service they provide is only good in their imaginary minds. Stay away for your own good. Good Luck!!!!!!!

This salon is really the best I've ever been to. The stylists work really hard to make sure you are truly happy with your hair. My appointments are never rushed and always on time. I would highly recommend this salon. From pedicures to foils, there really is no need to go anywhere else.
Like a bit of Boston or New York in Cranston. This salon is trendy and beautiful and the stylists are great. It's right on Park Ave at Resivour Ave. These guys know style and the experience was fabulous. I guess they also do nails, color and perms. Looking forward to going back again.
