A bad company with poor customer service!

SHELL was contracted to finish up the installation of the heating and air system that was started by another contractor.

Schell installed 2 YORK outdoor compressor units. The first floor system is working fine (for now). But the second system for the top two floors of the house was not cooling properly. Schell sent a tech out to diagnose the problem, and it was discovered that the Evaporator Coil (which was already installed in the house before Schell was contracted) has an “R-22 Expansion Value”, and the York Compressor unit, that Schell installed, is set up for a 410a cooling system that needs a “410a Expansion Value” in the Evaporator Coil.

The Manufacture’s Label on the Evaporator Coil states the unit is either R22/410a unit, which means that it is a dual unit. BUT IT ALSO SAYS: Model number ######### + V R22 NON BLEED V; which means (even for a lay person) that even though it is a dual unit, it has been preset at the Factory with an R-22 Expansion Value already installed on the coil.

The fix for this oversight by Schell on the initial installation: Replace the Expansion value with one that is for a 410a cooling system. About 230.00 (the valve cost 49.00 plus tax if I buy it).

Any good Heating & Air company would have looked for possible miss matches in the system, for this type of installation (finishing a job that another contractor started). Since the System wasn’t properly installed by Schell from the beginning, I believe that Schell should correct this issue at no charge to me or my Builder’s warranty.
