General Info
Dear Old Courthouse Theatre Family: My name is Tommy Warlick, and I am proud and privileged to serve as the new President of the Board of Directors Old Courthouse Theatre (OCT). Please give me a few minutes to re-introduce you to OCT. The upcoming 2010-2011 season marks OCT's 35th anniversary as your community theatre, and we have an amazing season on tap for you - the first regional productions of two big musicals "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and "Honk!, " the beloved classics "Harvey" and "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, " and the uniquely North Carolina comedy "Divorce Southern Style." We appreciate the continued support shown each time you come to an OCT production, and can hardly wait to see how much you are going to enjoy these latest offerings. But if all you're planning on doing next season is attending those five main stage productions, you're going to miss out on the best part of OCT - the "community" of our community theatre. OCT is theatre for the people of Cabarrus County by the people of Cabarrus County. As the only community theatre in Cabarrus County, OCT offers everyone in Cabarrus County the opportunity to participate in every aspect of OCT's operations, from auditions to closing performances and everything in between. Come perform with us, whether it's a full-scale main stage production, a reading with our Living Room Readers Series (no memorizing lines!), or a children's production with OCT's CabCo Pretenders. Come create with us - design, build or paint sets, design or make costumes, or design or operate lights or sound. Come work with us - lend a hand with our website, sell ads or sponsorships, prepare grant applications, usher audience members. Whatever your talents or interests, we have a place for you at OCT. To that end, I want to invite each of you to join a new and very special group of OCT volunteers, the 1357 Society. The new group is being formed not only to further OCT's mission of providing quality entertainment, but also to give us an opportunity to celebrate our volunteers with some special recognitions and activities (including a special event at the theatre at the close of next season to celebrate 35 magical years of community theatre and to anticipate 35+ more incredible years). To become an annual member, we ask you to commit to doing four things each year for OCT: donate or provide "1" item for auction in an OCT fundraiser, bring "3" newcomers to an OCT production or event, attend "5" OCT productions or events yourself, and perform "7" hours of volunteer service for OCT. Hence, the name "1357": 1 item, 3 newcomers, 5 productions, and 7 hours. To join the 1357 Society, sign up in the membership book in our lobby or send me an email at info@oldcourthousetheatre.org. This wonderful theatre belongs to us - all of us - and we owe it to ourselves, our families, and our friends and neighbors to make OCT one of the crown jewels of Cabarrus County. OCT wants you - your involvement, your talents, your ideas, your feedback. Call OCT. Email OCT. Stop me or any Board member or volunteer and speak with us. But please, join us. Together we can show the rest of North Carolina what a real community theatre looks like.
