- Ohio School for the Deaf, established in 1829, is one of the oldest institutions in the United States that offers support services and special educational programs to children with hearing impairments. It offers education to students in grades kindergarten through 12. The school s curriculum offers vocational education, special studies, physical education and academic courses. It has a communications department that provides a variety of services, including interpreter, tutoring, note taking, closed-caption encoding and sign language instruction. The school also provides audiological assessment, hearing aid analysis and selection; auditory training, evaluation of classroom acoustics and life skills training. The support services offered by the school include speech and language therapies; psychological testing; individual and family counseling; transition evaluation and mental health programs; and medical screenings and health education. It has a more than 100-acres campus located in Columbus, Ohio, that includes fully equipped playground, gymnasium and outdoor areas.
