I have not been to the actual restaurant , but ate the flautas at the latino festival from el vaquero's and they were Superb.
Honestly, a very big dissapointment. Was shocked they received awards for the last 5yrs. Very fresh ingredients, but sadly little to no seasoning or flavor to everything we ordered. Have been their more than once to; to give them the benefit of doubt. Nice staff, good prices, but well below average taste.
I should start out by saying I am a very picky person,
I am absolutly inlove with mexican burritos but they never get my order perfect.... unless of course I go to el Vaquero!
my burrito is always outstanding! comes with your choice of side rice beans or salad; the welcome you with chips and salsa, and great service!
dont miss out on this gem of mexican food!
Ive been El Vaquero's frequent customer since the 90's when they started they were probably one of the first mexican restaurants in ohio, and that naturally grabed a lot of attention.
As the years passed amny other restaurants that offered ""mexican""food were opened, but not one of them offered the true taste of mexican-american food as El Vaquero does.
El vaquero busines opened many locations thru out the ears, and they have being growing ever since.
El vaquero offers you a great selection of mexican dishes, lets face it taco bell and chipotle are NOT mexican food at all!
El vaquero counts with a great team of waiters that are always attentive and welcoming to all clients.
for a taste of true mexican food and in order to have a great dining experience you must not miss out on El vaquero
I am a big fan of mexican food; my faborite restaurant is most def. El Vaquero!
the service is wonderful, the restaurant is beatiful!
there are many locations to choose from, but the one closest to my job is the one on Olentangy; and I go there twi a week and never get tired of the fantastic food and friendly service.
the food is always on time and tasty!
ou inmediatl receive chips and salsa, and you are never unattended
I strongly suggest you visit this location and try for yourself , theres a reason that El Vaquero has so many locations allaround Ohio!
Absolutely the BEST Mexican Food I have ever tried. I have visited dozens of mexican restaurants; and some of them are ok and other are just aweful. Too spicy or to dry. On the other hand, El Vaquero is always delicious!
We tried the location at Olentangy, near Riverside Hospital and it became our faborite of them all!
I come from a hispanic heritage so I know what mexican food tastes like; El Vaquero is able to mix traditional Mexican taste with the american taste we are comfortable with .
I also noticed that they remodel every year or so; this way whenever you go u\you feel like it a diffrent place!
very attentive service and quick too
I vote El Vaquero for the best mexican restaurant in ohio!
I attend Ohio State University, and El Vaquero is our faborite place to go out for mexican food!
if I have a date?... El Vaquero is perfect fit: cozy booth and yummy food!
lunch plans with the gang?... El Vaquero strikes again! we get big groups of 10+ and the party is on! you can actually cal and make reservations, they are very professional its unbelivable!
the food is fantastic, always on task : tasty, perfect temperature, and delicious!
the service is very friendly and fun, but at the same time very professional and helpful.
I dont care if others had ""bad"" expiriences , accidents happen! but I am very happy with El Vaquero!
keep up the good job guys!
Living in southern Calif I am used to eating Mexican food and have visited dozens and dozens of Mexican restaurants. Even Taco Bell is better than this place (and I consider TB to only minimally be considered Mexican food). I was with a party of 10 people that tried this restaurant while visiting a relative in Riverside Hosp. About half of those that ate with me are of Hispanic heritage. The salsa delivered with the chips was terrible, looked and tasted like watered down ketchup - disgusting! The beans and rice were flavorless, the taco had ground beef with absolutely no seasoning, and very little else. Everyone in the party complained about their food. The service was horrendous, difficult to get anyone to the table, it was nearly impossible to get refills on drinks, and we finally had to get up and walk around the restaurant to find someone to give us our check so we could leave. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemey.
I am originally from New Mexico so I know good Mexican food and this place is absolutely horrible. Many of my local Columbus friends insist on going there (bless thier hearts they don't know better) and every time I unwilling tag along I REGRET it. The sad thing is they have Mexican's working in the kitchen and they should know better than to serve this stuff. The food has a funny taste and is not prepared in true Mexican style (it is more like Tex-Mex). Sorry El Vaquero I have to give you a big thumbs down.
The food here is pretty lame. Everything seems like it came out of the freezer and it has this weird aftertaste. One time I got a salad in a tortilla bowl and it tasted just like the weird cleaner smell that the restaurant always reeks of. They must have been sitting out forever because it was also not crispy at all.
All of our food had a poor taste to it. We requested a side of queso and the server told us it was still frozen - un minuto. When he served it to us he said it was still cold, but okay to eat, which tasted like butter not cheese.
This is a hole in the wall, although to be fair its easy to get seated and served quickly. I've only had the enchalidas but its the worst I've ever had twice!!! Maybe Columbus has much lower standards for mexican fare than a New Mexican but this stuff is horrible... go to Taco Bell for better food and save your money.
I am a bit bias in my review of El Vaquero as this is where I met my fiance. We have been back there many time since that night. I have never been disappointed with El Vaquero; however, I have never been blown away. When I am in the mood for Mexican El Vaquero is always at the top of my list.
I considered myself spoiled that the first real Mexican food I tasted in the US was at the Vaquera restaurants. The food was always out of this world. We were so thrilled when they recently opened a restaurant near us in Hilliard. Although this venue is much more stylishly decorated, the maragaritas were weak and tasted dusty. My chicken fajita salad was awful, and had been made with canned chicken! The next time we went, it was the same, plus they made a mistake with my husband's order. Thinking it might just be teething trouble, we went to the restaurant on Olentangy River Road. After an extremely long wait (no surprise though) we were seated. Although the margaritas were wonderful, we both commented that the quality of the ingredients isn't as good as it used to be. We're going to look for some place else for good Mexican food...
I used to be a fan of El Vaquero, but over the years the food has gotten progressively worse. It is simply not as good and not as authentic as it used to be. It is still a decent place to go, as it has nice atmosphere and extensive menu, but the food is just so-so.
What more can I say? This authentic mexican restaurant is simply amazing - in terms of its food, ambience, the host, servers, everything. And it is fairly inexpensive as well. Their menu is very extensive as I was nearly confused the first time I dined there with my girlfriend. El Vaquero is a great restaurant for family, friends or just for two or three people. I absolutely recommend this place for anyone who loves fun, food, and great people.
El Vaquero is the best authentic mexican food in town, hands down... I am never disappointed there. The service is extremely fast, so it's a great place to stop in if you are in a hurry... but if you're not, stay and try the magaritas...we love this place!
New to Columbus and desperate for some good Mexican food we followed the rating on this web site to try El Vaquero Saturday night. The ONLY nice thing I can say is that the guacamole was not completely awful. The enchiladas were over cooked and tough, the sauce was sweet and bland without even a hint of heat, the beans lacked zip and body, the chips were stale, the salsa came from a jar and not a good one at that. The only way this place could get a good review is if the reviewer was clueless as to what GOOD Mexican food is like!
Usually the only places you can find good Mexican food are the holes in the wall places. Not in the case of El Vaquero. The food there is wide-ranging, covering a great number of dishes from all over Mexico. And all of them are well done and delivered to you speedily by the friendly staff.
I could do without the TVs in the eating areas, but of course I'd be lying if I didn't say it was fun when they were showing Mexican soccer or something.
My husband and I dine there frequently. You will not fine a staff that works harder than these folks. They bring your order so quickly, you think you are at a fast food restaurant. They are pleasant and we just plain enjoy the food.
It does get crowded if you come at the peak evening hours. Large parties should call ahead.
