General Info
Massage is a popular way to help the body relax and return to a state of ease. There are many different types of massage, for different therapeutic benefits. Lymphatic stimulation massage helps to stimulate a normal-but-sluggish lymphatic system, aiding in injury recovery and detoxification. Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized massage used when the lymphatic transport system is damaged and normal patterns of lymph drainage are disrupted. When people undergo treatment for cancer, they may be at risk for developing lymphoedema. Surgery may remove nodes and damage lymph vessels. Radiotherapy damages lymph nodes and vessels. Resulting lymphoedema may occur soon or years later. Melanoma, breast cancer, prostate and gynaecological cancers have an increased risk for lymphoedema; Lymphoedema cannot be cured. It requires lifelong management. Management involves compression to reduce then maintain limb size, manual lymphatic drainage, exercise, and skin care. Compression can be bandaging during a reduction phase and a compression garment during the maintenance phase. Low level laser therapy may also be used. They can help monitor limb size and offer manual lymphatic drainage, education in self massage, exercise and skin care. The massage, which is very gentle and deeply relaxing, helps to direct lymph to other functioning nodes. To book an appointment with one of our qualified therapists please phone Linda at 614-855-5533
