I took my designer wedding Dress (Justin Alexander), wedding shoes and veil into her store a year ago to place it on consignment. I was given a sheet of paper listing the contract terms and I paid a $10 consignment fee. We agreed upon the following prices for the items: dress-$600, shoes-$40, and veil-$75. According to the contract I was to receive 50% of the sale price when the items were sold. I left with an assigned number and was told I could call to see if any of the items had been sold but would need to provide my assigned number. I called and was told there was a check for $46 dollars for me. I went into the shop today to pick up said check and was curious which items had sold and for how much. She informed me that the veil and shoes had sold for the original asking price (total $115). I then inquired why I was only receiving a check for $46 and she stated that as of 1/1/18 her take away from each sale was now 60% and the consigner was to receive 40%. I expressed my disagreement as my contract with her was signed prior to this date at which she responded, “I can’t keep my doors open at 50% because my rent tripled at this location.” I explained that we had a binding contract and if I wanted to get an attorney involved she would owe me the remaining $11.50. She asked, “Why I was getting so upset over 5-6 dollars?” This was not the reason I was upset. I was upset that I had never been informed of the change in contract terms and therefore was never given the opportunity to terminate the contract if I so wished. I removed my dress from the shop because I do not trust the owner to not pull a stunt like this again. Those considering consigning with her, BEWARE. She also made several inappropriate and illegal insinuations that if money had been left there for more than 4 months she did not have to pay me for the items she had sold. This is theft!
