RENTERS BEWARE: DO NOT RENT from this company!!!! I have never written a review like this because I don't believe in publicly announcing my opinion. But after enduring 6 months of watching my good friend and co-worker bullied and ignored, this had to be shared with other young professionals seeking housing in Cincinnati.
This good friend and co-worker of mine rented an average one bedroom apartment for a reasonable monthly price at OWLS' NEST located in O'bryonville. Roughly 30 days after she moved in, she noticed a number of bugs in her apartment (NO, not bed bugs). She reported this right away to the main rental office. They informed her they would have someone check out the problem. She realizes she is likely to encounter a bug(s) in any type of apartment or home, no matter how clean. It happens. They are small creatures that can bend and morph their bodies into the tiniest of holes. I get that, but this CONTINUED FOR 6 MONTHS! My friend has 100, yes 100, emails documenting her on-going conversations to management about the problem since the end of October 2011. They've sprayed multiple times over the course of the 6 months, but still to this day she sees anywhere from 5-20 bugs a night. The ""experts"" that were brought in to spray reported the bugs were classified as a crustacean type bug with gills?! I've seen silver-fish bugs a time or two in my life and know how unpleasant looking they are. Some can even be quite large. Try Google imagining these bugs and you will be grossed out too. Now multiply that feeling times 20 day in and day out. At first I thought she was exaggerating this number and the entire horrible experience, but I'm sad to say I've been to her apartment and have seen them first hand. She has even collected the bugs and taken them into the management office in bags to prove they exist and are continually accumulating at an alarming rate! Still, with evidence in hand, NO solution was reached by working with the office employees, just cruel jokes and fake empathy.
After working for months with these general office employees, and no offense but I work in customer service and I am sincerely appalled at some of the responses my friend received from these people, she decided to track down the CEO of the company (PEG WYANT) to figure out a solution to this problem. On another side note, I've been impressed by my friend's politeness throughout this entire situation. I'm not one to suggest attacking people during times of conflict, as my favorite saying is ""You get more with sugar than you do with salt"", but in this case all she has received from her gushing amounts of sugar bestowed upon them is more bugs!! After DAYS of trying to have a conversation with Peg, she finally gets a hold of her to discuss what options are available to leave the property early and finally live somewhere pesticide and bug free, which is her absolute right to demand a habitable environment. PEG'S OVERALL RESPONSE: ""There isn't a problem"" and ""I don't believe you"". Her solution was to have my friend move to another unit they manage and PAY MORE a month to make up the difference!!!!! OUTRAGEOUS! Overall, the office employees and the CEO herself will not feel bad for you or even care if you rent an apartment of theirs with bugs. And you just might, because if you are in the market for a one bedroom apartment, GOOD LUCK. They have made it VERY clear that there is not a problem! So again, I make the claim of Renters beware! Grandin Properties is NOT the place to find a clean and habitable home! UNREAL.
