- Founded in 1904, the American Lung Association offers a range of research, education and advocacy services. It is one of the leading organizations that prevents lung diseases in the United States. The association provides treatment for asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer, tuberculosis, influenza, pneumonia and sarcoidosis. The American Lung Association administers various public and school programs. It also offers an online smoking cessation program. The association operates a network of more than 15 asthma clinical research centers. The American Lung Association conducts the Teens Against Tobacco Use program, as well as provides air pollution prevention services. In addition, the association administers multicultural and communication programs.
