HB Masonry and Concrete was brought on-board by our General Contractor, Greg Reagle, to take part in the construction of our new house. HB Masonry poured all of the footings, slabs, and sidewalks plus laid the brick for the exterior walls and steps. We received our CO in September 2012.PROBLEM #1: Immediately after the basement slab set, a crack formed in it. The crack started from the center of the basement and ran 2/3 of the distance to an exterior foundation wall, where it met a joint. The crack is approximately 2 3 millimeters wide. Keith Herndon, the company owner, told me that this crack meets the tolerance under the guidelines of the BOCA Code. However, Keith Herndon promised me that he was going to repair the crack. At this time, no attempts have been made to repair the crack.PROBLEM #2: The brick work on two exterior walls that meet a gable roof and soffit were never completed. The missing bricks created two large gaps. This was brought to our attention on April 2013 by a family of Starlings (medium sized black bird) nesting in our soffit. On June 19, 2013, HB Masonry attempts to seal the two gaps in a very unprofessional manner. No bricks were cut to fit in and seal the gap, as promised. HB Masonry took a handful of mortar and packed the gap with it. No finishing was attempted on the mortar to minimize its unsightliness. I notified the General Contractor on June 19, 2013 that the sloppy patch job was unacceptable. However, HB Masonry never returned to professionally correct this problem. Within two weeks, both mortar patch jobs cracked and dislodged from the house. I immediately notified both the General Contractor and HB Masonry of the patch job falling. However, HB Masonry never returned to professionally correct this problem.PROBLEM #3: Prior to moving into our house, two of our three exterior brick steps' mortar joints where the steps meet the landings cracked. On June 19, 2013, HB Masonry also attempted to repair those joints. The side entrance steps' joint failed shortly afterwords. The gap is now approximately inch wide. Both, the General Contractor and HB Masonry received several text messages (including pictures) of the joint's failure. However, HB Masonry never returned to professionally correct this problem. PROBLEM #4: Prior to moving into our house, the back steps' mortar joints between various bricks began to chip away. On June 19, 2013, no attempt was made to address this problem.PROBLEM #5: One brick from an exterior wall to our future pets flight cage, dislodge from the wall. On June 19, 2013, this problem was corrected properly. The listed cost of $87, 450.00 was for concrete and labor only. We purchased the brick and mortar separately. My wife and I are very unhappy with HB Masonry and Concrete substandard craftsmanship, failure to back their work and false promises!
