The Nevada Department of Public Safety provides support services for individuals and visitors by promoting communities through prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, education and enforcement services. The department operates a police division that protects the lives and properties of citizens and visitors, focuses on preserving peace, prevents crime and disorder, and safeguards personal rights and liberty. It also maintains an emergency management division that coordinates the efforts of the state and its political subdivisions together in partnership with private and volunteer organizations. The Nevada Department of Public Safety operates an investigation division that collects, analyzes and disseminates information concerning crime, controlled substance violators, missing persons, unidentified bodies and domestic violence. The department also operates traffic safety and parole and probation divisions. It maintains an office of criminal justice assistance that administers grants to the state and local units of government. The department additionally operates a fire division that offers fire protection and prevention services.
