- Teeth CleaningIt is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every three months for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups, even during your orthodontic treatment. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist or other specialist to make sure you receive the best possible care.
- VeneersPosition the teeth to optimize other dental treatments (e.g., implants, bridges, veneers, etc.) The length of comprehensive treatment depends on the severity of the problem. If the front teeth have minor crowding or spacing but the back teeth fit together properly, treatment may take as little as nine to 12 months. By contrast, treatment to correct moderate to severe crowding or spacing, or an improper bite, typically takes between 18 and 24 months. In some complex cases, treatment may extend beyond 24 months.
- CrownsYes, you can. A tooth with a crown or root canal will move just like any other tooth. When teeth are missing, orthodontic treatment will help to align the remaining teeth to prepare for restoration of the missing teeth.

- Oral SurgeryMost children lose all their baby teeth by age 13, and by the end of their teen years, the jaw bones will harden and stop growing. Orthodontic procedures for adults often take more time and can involve tooth extraction or oral surgery. Receiving early orthodontic treatment as a child can help prevent the need for orthodontics as an adult, and leave little to no chance of extraction or surgery in the future.
- Jaw SurgeryOrthodontics is designed to reposition and straighten teeth, but in some cases surgical orthodontics may be needed to correct more severe jaw irregularities. Surgical orthodontics is used to straighten the jaw(s) into alignment, and can often improve a patient’s ability to chew, speak, and breathe. Braces are usually worn in conjunction with orthognathic surgery to make sure the teeth stay in the proper position as well.
- Tooth ExtractionsThese are just a few of the questions surrounding the topic of early orthodontic treatment for children. While there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children see an orthodontist as early as age seven. By this age, most children will have a mix of baby and adult teeth, which makes it easier for Dr. Schabel or Dr. Chan to diagnose and correct certain tooth and jaw problems sooner without tooth extractions or surgery.
