Kathy Barnhart Smith, a native of Chester, WV, has been sewing since she was 4 yrs old on her aunt's lap. She continued sewing through high school, with special courses. Her work with a Master Tailor in Sandusky, OH, and extensive training in alterations at major retail clothing stores such as J C Penney, Richmond Bros., S&K Menswear, and numerous dry cleaners, has transformed her into the perfect person to trust your garments with. For the five years prior to opening Alterations Etc, she was also a store manager and retail account manager for a retail alterations chain with 10 stores in Ohio and Pa., where she not only performed alterations and tailoring, but supervised, hired, and did marketing for all 10 stores. Due the passing of her father in 2009, she and her husband moved back to the Calcutta, OH area to care for her mother. Kathy prides herself on quality work. She strives to make each garment look the same or better as it was when originally purchased. She is not your typical "home sewer", she uses a combination of multiple industrial machines of various types that are specialized achieving that special stitch, or hem. If you have a broken zipper, bring it in. Most times they can be fixed without incurring the cost of replacement. At Alterations Etc., you will find honesty. If Kathy feels for some reason that an item is not worth the cost of repair, she'll tell you instead of just taking your money. " We want business, but not that way", she says. " I value each and every customer, and I'm not about to try to rip people off." When coming to Alterations Etc., you will find a clean, spacious changing room, with a separate bright mirrored area for being fitted and friendly, courteous service. You won't find another place as professional and with superior quality in Calcutta, East Liverpool, or the Tri-State Area. When going to Alterations Etc, you won't be trusting your garments to be left in someone's home where there may be pets or smoke. Alterations Etc is fully licensed and insured. When traveling on State Route 170 past the Dunham Square Plaza, go to the red light at Sheetz, turn right. Continue on State Route 170, past Bruster's Ice Cream and Good Wheels car lot. The next building on the right is a small beige building. You will find Alterations Etc. located in the middle.
