- Primary CareThe following are some general guidelines for treating eye injuries properly; however; ff you receive an eye injury, seek immediate medical attention from an ophthalmologist or primary care physician to reduce the risk of permanent damage.
- GlaucomaGlaucoma patients can expect excellent care when you visit Alamance Eye Center, you will be given a complete eye examination, including an automated visual field test. This will help determine any damage to your optic nerve by measuring the extent of your side vision. Photographs and a visual examination of the inside of your eye will be made. Your eye care specialist will then discuss his findings with you and make recommendations for treatment and medications. Remember, loss of vision due to glaucoma can be prevented. It requires frequent eye exams and tests as well as faithful use of your prescribed medications.

- Laser Eye SurgeryAn ophthalmologist is a medically and surgically trained physician (MD) who specializes in comprehensive eye care. Ophthalmologists can examine, diagnose and treat eye disorders. They are skilled in all facets of eye care, from prescribing eye glasses to performing intricate eye surgery. Ophthalmologists receive four years of medical school after college, a year’s internship, and a three-year training residency. Most ophthalmologists have had additional training in a subspecialty.

- Internal MedicineSteven A. Dingeldein, MD is a Greensboro native and joined Alamance Eye Center in 1988. Dr. Dingeldein graduated Phi Beta Kappa from UNC-Chapel Hill and attended Princeton Theological Seminary. He received his medical degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in ophthalmology at UNC. He completed subspecialty training in diseases and surgery of the cornea at Louisiana State Medical Center in New Orleans. In August 1991, as the principal investigator in clinical trials on the VISX excimer laser project in NC, Dr. Dingeldein was the first physician in this area to treat myopia with an excimer laser.

Dr. Zhang’s clinical interests include the surgical and medical management of retinal diseases including retinal detachment, macular puckers and macular holes, as well as diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. - UltrasoundOur retina specialist utilizes state of-the-art techniques and equipment in the diagnosis and treatment of all his patients. Digital photography/angiography, OCT (3-D retina imaging) and ultrasound imaging along with full Laser capabilities are available. Alamance Eye Center also provides the latest treatments for Wet Macular Degeneration such as Lucentis, Avastin and Visudyne.

- Minimally Invasive SurgeryDr. Klifto completed her fellowship in glaucoma at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2019. She has numerous publications, abstracts and presentations in retina disease and glaucoma. Her clinical interests include glaucoma treatment by medical, laser and surgical means including trabeculectomy, tube shunt, minimally-invasive surgery, cataracts, ocular trauma and pediatric glaucoma. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and Phi Beta Kappa.
- Reconstructive SurgeryBorn and raised in New Jersey, Dr. Rubinstein completed his undergraduate education with honors at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, NJ. He subsequently attended medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Dr. Rubinstein went on to complete his internship in internal medicine as well as his residency in ophthalmology at Rutgers as well, serving as chief resident of his ophthalmology program in his final year. Subsequently, he was invited for fellowship training in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the ASOPRS accredited Center for Facial Appearances under the mentorship of renowned facial plastic surgeon Dr. John McCann. Upon completion of this rigorous, prestigious training, Dr. Rubinstein joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. In addition to his clinical practice locations in Chapel Hill and Burlington, Dr. Rubinstein provides award-winning care for the veterans of North Carolina at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center.
