I visited yesterday and I was terribly disappointed. .after reading the reviews I couldn't wait to get in..I came in and was greeted but the concern for urgency DID NOT exist! When my order was finally taken I waited over 30 minutes with no complaints as I assumed the food was made to order. The person taking the order finally fixed the to go without telling anyone..further wait. The waitress a very pleasant full figured girl apologized and so sweetly I was ok until I tasted the food..TERRIBLE! Who wrote these reviews? I ordered fried fish..green beans..yams on 1 plate with my 1 piece of small fish..the green beans tasted as though the were simply shaken from the can straight to the plate..the yams seasoned with generous amounts of everything wrong and no sugar..I then tried the fried chicken which just tasted like GREASE...old GREASE..the skin of the chicken was soggy and greasy..I think they season with grease..I was not asked what part of the chicken I wanted just given a leg quarter..the mac and cheese was HORRIBLE..NO FLAVOR..and the cheese..I didn't quite understand..the mac was yellow that was it..not taste of cheese no texture..just plain AWFUL!! The collard greens. .shaken from a generic can of bland stems! Even Glory greens have flavor..these were the worst serving of stems EVER. The corn muffins..made in a pan the size of mini cupcakes..were tough and chewy. I paid about $17 or $18 for child size portions of bland and greasy food. Delightful Soul shouldve started off alot smaller..combined with all waitstaff..the food..and location -☆ why not keep someone at the front door at all times..have Big Mama also waiting to greet..look presentable for your guest. NO SPANDEX if you're working the floor..if your guest will be waiting more than 10 minutes offer water..serve all guests dining in and taking out adequately and efficiently. I will NOT be returning. .however I wish them success.

I must say; went I read in the Burlington Times News that a new Soul Food restaurant was opening in the area I felt like a kid at Christmas being a food enthusiast and self-proclaimed connoisseur of soul food. First I will start with the positives about Delightful Soul. Although the service started off rocky as my party of 3 had to wait around 10 min, just to be greeted upon entering the door with had a observable empty house at high peak time lunch hour started us off on the wrong foot but the waitress was extremely pleasant and made sure that our glasses where never empty for to long. Now on to what matters the food, right? I ordered the two meat meal, which consisted of 2 meats and three sides. I choose the mac & cheese, collard greens and yams for my sides and the fried Chicken and chicken pie for the meat choices. As for my dining guests one ordered the fried fish along with mac & cheese with the collard greens and my other guest ordered BBQ Chicken, yams and mac and cheese. Now for the constructive criticism, first we had to wait 30 minutes for our food; which we were fine with, because we were told that our fried Fish and fried Chicken would be cooked to order. Once we received our plates the fish and chicken were the only items hot on our plates. We can to a common consensus that one the mac & cheese we were presented should not be served room temperature and should not be made with penne pasta. The Mac & cheese lacked richness and flavor; the mac & cheese should have been a well made staple in any successful Soul Food establishment. Next the Fried Chick and the BBQ Chicken seemed be off as well. The Fried Chicken was one order of dark meat which consists of a thigh and drumstick, I received a leg quarter fried which was extremely odd to me, because leg quarters are commonly used for grilled chicken and or BBQ Chicken on the grill, but I thought I would give this a try. The fried chicken was dark in skin color which usually means to me old cooking oil was used, which after tasting the chicken my theory was correct. My guest received the BBQ Chicken which was also a dark meat order as well with the leg and thigh separate; to both of ours surprise the chicken was friend chicken covered in BBQ sauce. We thought this could be a new take on BBQ chicken but turned out to be a failed mediocre attempt on a classic. It is my suspicion this was just left over chicken from the day before that was given a reuse. Next the collard greens were from a can and flavorless event thought, we were told they were fresh and flavored with pork which is traditional in southern soul food. On the other hand the yams were home-made but were served cold. The fish was freshly fried and just basic and lastly but not least the chicken pie filling had a delicious taste but was overshadowed by the underdone crust. In conclusion the food was subpar and not to be harsh or negative but this establishment will not survive the winter without a Chef Gordon Ramsay intervention!
