- Dental CareOne Love Animal Hospital provides your loved one with exceptional care by developing a complete oral health care assessment and treatment plan. Sixty percent of dental disease occurs above the gumline. Therefore, we offer full mouth digital radiographs to assess the degree of dental disease present in your pet. As with all our procedures, we take great care in how we monitor your pet before, during and after the anesthetic procedure.
- VaccinationIn our experience, many pets are either over or under vaccinated before reaching our hospital. It is important for us to note that we do not follow a one-size-fits-all approach of vaccination. We discuss all core and non-core vaccines with you to develop a prevention plan that is best for your pet and your pet's lifestyle and risk of disease.
- Veterinary OphthalmologyYour pet can develop glaucoma, too. This is a condition in which the fluid pressure inside the eye increases to a point where the optic nerve is damaged, causing loss of vision and blindness. Glaucoma is relatively common in animals and can develop as your pet ages – this is known as chronic glaucoma – or as the result of an injury or illness – which is known as acute glaucoma.
- Nutritional Counseling
- Comprehensive ExaminationWe customize service and care recommendations across all life stages; and, wellness exams are a chance for us to assess your pet’s overall health, discuss any changes we see, and inform you of advancements in veterinary care. Additionally, the wellness exam provides you with one-on-one time to discuss any concerns you may have regarding your pet’s health.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlRadiographs (X-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. X-rays are useful in examining your pet's bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas of the body. An x-ray can spot a fractured bone, detect tumors, help with the diagnosis of heartworm disease or locate an obstruction or foreign body in your pet's intestine or stomach. When used in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures like ultrasound, x-rays can accurately diagnose problems, making treatment faster and easier for your pet and your veterinarian.
- Behavioral Disorder TreatmentFVRCP Vaccine (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calici virus and Panleukopenia): Panleukopenia, or better known as feline distemper, is a highly contagious virus that causes severe diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration and low white blood cell count. Since there is no cure for the disease, treatment involves supportive care that is costly and does not guarantee survival. Due to the seriousness of the disease and the rate of contagion, it is included in the core vaccines that the staff at One Love Animal Hospital recommends for all cats. Calici virus and Rhinotracheitis cause upper respiratory infections and are also extremely contagious to other cats. Some chronic nasal and oral diseases can also be attributed to the infections. Typically, vaccinations are started at eight weeks of age and continue every 3-4 weeks for a series of three injections, followed by a booster a year later. Adults with previous vaccination require revaccination every three years.
- Pain ManagementDr. Cheung’s professional interests include wound and pain management, internal medicine, and emergency medicine; however, she is most passionate about strengthening the human-animal bond. She is a strong advocate for reducing stress during veterinary visits to improve care and welfare of each and every patient.

- Skin Condition and Allergy TreatmentSome pets have more serious nutritional challenges or chronic conditions that can benefit from a special diet. If we identify an issue in your pet, the staff at One Love Animal Hospital offers advice and provide information about diets that benefit specific medical conditions such as liver disease, bladder and kidney stones, renal failure, food allergies, diabetes and other conditions.
- Upper Respiratory Illness TreatmentBordetella Vaccine: If your dog is going to dog parks, dog shows or boarding facilities, a kennel cough vaccination is recommended. Bordetella, a bacterial infection, affects the respiratory system and, while not usually life threatening, can develop into pneumonia. This vaccination does not provide 100 percent immunity from the disease, but reduces its clinical signs if your pet is exposed and speeds recovery time. For puppies, a series of two boosters administered 3-4 weeks apart is required for full immunity.
- Leptospirosis TreatmentLeptospirosis Vaccine: Leptospirosis is caused by a bacteria and is transmissible to people. It is transmitted through contact with infected tissue. Indirect transmission occurs through exposure of susceptible animals to contaminated water sources, food and bedding. This bacterial infection can cause severe life-threatening damage to the liver and kidneys even after treatment with antibiotics and supportive care. For puppies, a series of two boosters administered 3-4 weeks apart is required for full immunity. Yearly booster vaccines are required to keep immunity at a proper level.
- Parvovirus Infection TreatmentThis combination vaccine protects against the most common and contagious viral diseases in dogs. Canine distemper and parvovirus are both serious and often fatal diseases affecting multiple organ systems. These illnesses generally require lengthy hospitalizations and usually results in a guarded prognosis. Adenovirus Type 2 vaccine protects against canine hepatitis and the parainfluenza vaccine helps protect against tracheobronchitis. Typically, vaccinations start at eight weeks of age and continue every 3-4 weeks for a series of injections, followed by a booster a year later. Adults with previous vaccination require re-vaccination every three years.
- Feline Retro Virus TreatmentFeLV vaccine (Feline Leukemia Virus): Cats that are exposed to cats with unknown disease and vaccine status are more at risk for contracting feline leukemia. It is transmitted through nasal secretions and saliva or bite wounds from infected cats and has no cure. During your cat's wellness exam our veterinarians discuss with you what level of risk there is for your cat. For kittens, a series of two boosters administered three to four weeks apart is required for full immunity. Annual booster vaccines are needed to keep immunity at a proper level.
- Bacterial and Viral Infection Treatment
- Ear Infection TreatmentChronic or recurrent otitis (ear infection) is a common and frustrating disease. At One Love Animal Hospital, we use a comprehensive approach to identify and manage all predisposing factors, primary causes, and perpetuating features in each case. Identifying the underlying cause is the key to successful therapy.
- Urinary Tract Infection TreatmentFor example, diagnostic testing can detect heartworm disease, Lyme disease, infections, feline leukemia, intestinal parasites, urinary tract infections, and many additional diseases and conditions that can go unnoticed in their early stages. Early blood testing can show evidence of disease such as diabetes, changes in liver or kidney function, or simply provide a baseline for future reference. Diagnostic testing is also included in pre-anesthetic screenings prior to dental or surgical procedures that require general anesthesia. Annual wellness blood and urine tests, along with other diagnostics, assist our veterinarians in the early detection of diseases and health conditions.
- Diabetes Treatment
- Thyroid Disease Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentClinical symptoms of heartworm disease develop very slowly. Often symptoms are not noticeable until several years after the initial infection. In dogs these symptoms include lack of energy, exercise intolerance, coughing and difficulty breathing. As the disease progresses, most of these dogs will develop congestive heart failure if not treated. In cats, the symptoms of heartworm disease are similar to those of feline asthma. Some cats may exhibit no signs of the disease, while other may suddenly die.
- Periodontal Disease TreatmentPets suffer from dental disease more often than most people realize. About 80% of dogs and an estimated 70% of cats over the age of three suffer from periodontal disease. This leads to further complications if left untreated.
- Seizure Treatment
- Wound and Fracture CareRabies: The rabies virus can be transmitted to mammals, including humans, usually through bite wounds from an infected animal. The most commonly infected animals in the New York City vicinity are raccoons and bats. New York City law requires that cats be vaccinated because it is one of the few deadly diseases pets can transmit to humans. If an unvaccinated pet bites or is bitten, serious consequences may occur, including the quarantining of your pet at your expense for up to six months and/or euthanasia. Kittens require this vaccine after 16 weeks of age, followed by yearly boosters.

- X-Ray
- Dental RadiologyWe also offer digital dental x-rays, which are high-definition images that provide a view below your pet's gumline and jaw in order to look for evidence of dental disease that cannot be seen by visual examination alone. This is a wonderful tool for enabling the treatment of dental issues before they become much larger and more expensive medical issues.
- MicrochippingThis is why One Love Animal Hospital views microchip lost pet IDs as a standard of care for all of our feline and canine patients. With a microchip, your pet can be identified quickly and easily by animal control officers, shelters or at veterinary hospitals. Microchips are safe, unalterable and permanent identification for pets. The entire implant procedure takes less than 10 seconds.
- BoardingThe New York City Department of Health requires that all boarding and grooming facilities ensure that clients' pets have received this vaccine no more than six months apart. If not taking your pet to board or groom, we recommend a yearly vaccine booster.
