I would recommend this class to ANYONE interested in getting a motorcycle license or learning how to ride. Some people in the class took a private lesson beforehand, some people had been riding for years, but I didn't have any experience on a motorcycle.
However, the class pace is amazing and the instructors were incredible. I had no idea what to expect, but while every one of them was a different personality they were all welcoming, encouraging, safety conscious, and great teachers. Over the 2.5 day class in Mott Haven I had Brett, Josh, Cheri, Jimmy, and Danny. The classroom portion isn't the most fun you'll have in your life, but the riding portion is great.
Being on time is no joke though, so make sure you leave early - especially with a long commute. I was coming from Brooklyn, so it takes over an hour to get to Mott Haven anyway... then there was a fire on the 4 train Sunday morning. Thankfully, I still made it on time in a cab. I don't fault them for having such a strict policy though, otherwise people wouldn't be on time.
This review is getting pretty long, but only because I really can't say enough good things about this course. HIGHLY recommended.

I took this class with absolutely no experience on a bike.... Antonio ""Tony"" instructed the course and in his patient manner of teaching made me feel like I knew what I was doing in a very short time. I recommend this class to anyone who is willing to learn more about motorcycle driving and safety. Thank you Tony for such a wonderful experience!!!

I had a private lesson with I thought was a one on one but I guess because I was special, I had the help of two instructors with different riding styles. Fred and Melvin were great. I had no idea getting on a motorcycle was so much fun. They made me so relaxed that it felt I had done this before. They both told me my strengths and what I needed to focus on next time. They encouraged me to stay focus and I can't wait to start my basic rider course. MSS has a great staff, if you get these two, they sure know what they are talking about. I have no doubt they all do.

I guess you could say I'm an experienced rider since I've been renewing my permit for over 30 years! I failed the road test several years ago. I didn't feel it was justified but what is....is.
It always gnawed at me that I didn't have the license. I say I'm experienced but I ride less than 500 miles in a year....not much.
To the point.
I decided to take this course which would result in obtaining the holy grail - a motorcycle license. I got MUCH MORE out of this course. Although always safety conscious I learned to be much safer and UNDID a few bad habits, by learning skills and tips that you will hone as you continue to ride. Instructors are GREAT....encouraging... and they make it fun. Make no mistake though. They are super serious that you learn. What shone through the most was their concern about your SAFETY...at the class and in knowing they are sending you out into the REAL WORLD of motorcycling. Antonio, Ray, ""T"" and Joon....THANKS VERY MUCH!!!!

I took the basic rider course earlier this month and I can't believe how easy they made it to learn how to ride safely. The instructors (Antonio and Steve) were extremely helpful, encouraging and engaging. They provided tons of experience and made the two-day experience a great one. I highly recommend you take this course. I had zero (0) experience before I came to this class. When I say zero, I mean to say I didn't even know how to properly start up a bike. After passing the course, I felt comfortable enough to ride and can't wait to get my own bike. I recommend you take this course even if you're an experienced rider. The instructors provide tips and share experiences that will help you enjoy riding for a long time.

I cannot recommend this enough for anybody inexperienced who wants to learn to ride a motorcycle. Before going through MSS I had 0 experience on a motorcycle. If that's your case I recommend 2 or 3 hours of private lessons before the course, although somebody I was in the course with had no experience or private lessons and by the end was a great rider. Besides learning and skipping the DMV test, the people here are absolutely AMAZING! I took private lessons with Antonio and Johnathan in Williamsburg, and then the course in the Bronx with Ray, Antonio, and Monica. All 5 were some of the most positive and encouraging people I have ever met. They really seem to get excited when you master a new skill. Even more amazing is they remember everybody's name and therefore give you even more personal encouragement. I heard ""That's it Jason, you got it!!"" many times. Even when I had my helmet on they knew it was me. Right after the class I bought a Ducati and felt comfortable driving all around Manhattan. I'm sure I would have been scared had I learned to ride from a friend or something else. I have never written a review on Citysearch before, but this was such an amazing experience I felt they deserved it.
- General Info
- Established in 1999, Motorcycle Safety School (MSS) has become the largest training school in New York State due to its focus on providing the best possible educational experience for its students.
