My father was healthier when he was discharged from the hospital. He was using a walker and using the restroom by himself. It was recommended that he go to Brandon Health and Rehab to get stronger. He was discharged 6 weeks later using a wheelchair with a fractured shoulder and incontinent. In the early stages of his stay, when I came for my daily visit, I found him sitting in a urine-soaked bed with an equally urine-soaked or soiled diaper. I eventually ended up changing the "briefs" as it could take 30 minutes to an hour for someone to answer the call button. He didn't even get water refreshed on a consistent basis. The only time he got out of bed was for his therapy for one-two hours a day. I ended up staying the majority of the day and early evening to ensure he was taken care of. In the beginning his bed also didn't work. During the hurricane, my father was left in a stifling, dark room for three days. There was only power in the hallways and at the nurses' station. I was rudely confronted because I had opened his window to get some air in the room before I left. I assured them I would lock it when I left. I would bring liquid soap so they could clean him after his bowel movements and that kept disappearing. We didn't end up having a "care" meeting until he had been there for almost a month. Each night when I left, I put his wheelchair in the same location near his bed with the brakes on. Every morning it would be in another location with the brakes off. Two days prior to the hurricane, I received a call that they were sending him to the emergency room because he had fallen trying to get up to use the restroom. I met him in the ER where I found that they had sent him with no clothes on, just a brief and a sheet. He was ordered to wear a sling, which only stayed on him when he went to therapy since no one taught the CNAs how to put it on him. He was constantly being pulled up out of bed by a few of the CNAs by his fractured shoulder. The lack of care was so appalling that there are too many incidents to record here. I knew I could only depend on compassionate care from two of his CNAs. My father left Brandon Rehab a totally dependent and broken man who passed away 20 days later. While they physical and occupational therapists were very good, the rest of the care was totally lacking. If you love your loved one, avoid this facility.

The admissions coordinator told us my aunt would be allowed to attend religious services of her choosing outside of the facility. When she asked to go to church, they refused to allow her to leave,a clear violation of her religious rights.
