I was in the 6th Grade in 1966, having recently moved from Michigan to Maysville. Mr. Rowe was the principal. I had difficulty seeing the chalk board. I needed glasses, but was too ashamed to tell anyone. Central didn't have books for me; I had to share them in class. Well, as it turned out, I failed the 6th grade. Mr. Rowe thoght I wasn't applying myself. This has affected my entire life. Simply because the school failed to properly determine what was wrong with me. I was very smart and great in school in Michigan, and we came down here, where I could not understand the local dialect, and no books, and bad eyesight, and even now, 45 years later, because of indifference to my needs as a child, I eventually quit school. I hope Central School has better teachers and principals. It would be a shame for other children to go through what I did. One other thing...I truly believe there was bias against me because I was from the North. Anyone else experience this?
