- Dental SealantsIn addition to the meticulous cleaning, polishing, and examination of your teeth, we also take the time to help our patients develop proper oral hygiene habits at home. We offer Sonicare electric toothbrushes at a reduced price. This product has greatly changed the oral health of many of our patients. It is strongly supported in our office – all of our staff members use a Sonicare. We will evaluate your hygiene techniques and make adjustments to your routine where needed. Dr. Rathburn and our hygienists will also make suggestions for preventative measures such as dental sealants or nightguards to protect against bruxism and TMJ.
- Fillings
- Resin CompositeThe bonding procedure is completed in one visit. The first step is to remove the decayed or unsightly portion of the tooth. The tooth is then etched with a liquid or gel and a bonding agent is then applied. This will allow the composite resin to be placed in the prepared tooth. The resin is then trimmed and polished, leaving you with a beautifully sculpted, natural-looking restoration.
- VeneersPorcelain veneers are extremely thin pieces of ceramic that are bonded to the front of the patients’ tooth to create a new smile. Porcelain veneers are placed over the front of teeth that appear too small or large, slightly discolored, or simply are not cosmetically pleasing to the patient. For many patients, teeth may have chipped, become discolored, or are slightly crooked. For the majority of these patients, porcelain veneers can prove to be the perfect solution.
- CrownsWhen dental decay or a tooth fracture occurs below the gumline, it may be necessary to remove a small amount of bone and gum tissue. The crown lenghtening procedure adjusts the gum and bone level to expose more of the tooth so it can be restored properly. If it is not done, the final crown edge (margin) will have to be located deeply under the gums, resulting in chronic irritation and soreness. Depending on the circumstances, this procedure may be recommended before a new crown is made for your tooth.
- BridgesIt is best to refrain from eating for at least 2 hours and until the anesthesia has worn off to prevent possibly injury to your soft tissue.

- Root Canal TreatmentRoot Canal, or endodontics, is the process of removing the nerves from the roots of a tooth. A root canal is often necessary to save an infected tooth. If an infected tooth is left alone for a long period of time, an abscess can form. An abscess will show up on an x-ray as a dark spot below the apex of the root. This is actually bone loss in the jaw. It is very important to catch this problem before it deteriorates too far. Contact us at (303) 816-3035 to see how we can help you.
- Periodontal SurgeryPeriodontal disease is an oral infection of the supporting bone and gum tissues, and is the major cause of tooth loss in America today. In the past the ill effects of periodontal disease were treated in two different manners. These were scaling and root planing and conventional periodontal surgery utilizing a scalpel and sutures.
- Deep CleaningAfter your scaling or root planning, it is best to rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day with warm salt water. One teaspoon salt / 8 oz. water. You should start home care immediately, although you should be extremely gentle with the treated areas.
- DenturesThere are two main types of dentures: full and partial. Dr. Rathburn will help you choose the type of denture that’s best for you based on whether some or all of your teeth are going to be replaced and the cost involved.
- Dental ImplantsA bone graft is a surgical procedure that replaces missing bone with bone from the patient’s own body or an artificial, synthetic, or natural substitute. The graft initially replaces missing bone, and then acts as a scaffold for your body to regenerate its own bone. This new bone becomes strong enough to have dental implants placed.
- Oral Surgery“The safety factor is such a valuable feature that I could never go back to placing implants or doing oral surgery without one. Patients report less post-operative pain and swelling when I use this device. Visit the manufacturing company, Mectron, at the following website to learn more about this wonderful device.” – Dr. Rathburn
- Flap Surgery“(With the Periolase MVP-7) It has been my experience that patients report less pain and follow a more comfortable course of events versus scalpel/flap surgery.”
- Gum SurgeryWhen recession of the gums (gingiva) occurs, the body loses a natural defense against both bacterial infection and trauma. When gum recession is a problem, gum reconstruction using grafting techniques is an option.
- Tooth ExtractionsBefore removing a tooth, a local anesthetic will be given to numb the area where the tooth is to be removed. Intravenous sedation may be used, especially if several teeth, or all of your wisdom teeth, will be removed at the same time. Intravenous sedation is an excellent means of managing pain and anxiety. It will make you groggy, or cause you to feel like you are asleep through the procedure. When using IV sedation it will be recommended that you don’t eat or drink 6 hours prior to your surgery. This is very important and could cancel your appointment if not strictly followed.
- Ridge AugmentationThe CT scans below are pre-treatment and post-treatment images, taken in my office, that show how I have improved the proposed implant site. The area where there are two teeth missing has been changed from one with inadequate bone to one with abundant bone. Both ridge augmentation and sinus grafting were performed. - General DentistryI have been in the dental field since 1996. I came to work with Dr. Rathburn in 2016. I hold a degree in Medical Business Administration and am certified in Dental Radiology. The majority of my career was spent in Oral Surgery and Periodontics but I found that General Dentistry is my favorite. I enjoy talking with our patients, getting to know who they are and hearing their stories. When I’m not battling insurance companies and getting your claims paid– I spend time bike riding, hiking, and traveling.
