I brought my recently purchased Fender Modern Player Plus Telecaster in to the shop because of a couple high frets. Mike "leveled" the frets without polishing and re-crowning, so I polished out the abrasion marks myself with a standard fret polishing kit. The guitar never played well in the higher frets again, so I went to another luthier I had known for years over in Pennsylvania. I thought a re-crown would fix the playability problem, but I found that from the 15th fret to the end of the neck the frets had been filed down so low that they can't even be crowned. My guitar is now damaged to the point that I either have to sell it, buy a new neck and install it, or spend $400.00 for a refret job, which you don't do on a guitar that sold for $500.00 brand new. Essentially, Mike, you ruined my guitar. Your workmanship is fast but sloppy, and now I regret ever coming to your shop.

This place is fantastic. Mike does great work and is a true professional. It is great to have a place that isn't a chain, and have someone remember you when you come in even if you're just having minor work done. He treats everyone great, even if you're new to the whole guitar thing like I am. You can't go wrong here!

I took a guitar to Mike at BGR. It was not playable when I took it in, and now I'm having a hard time putting it down. Mike's also writing up a spec sheet for a custom Bass build for my son. I know I appreciate the personal service. It's nice to know that the guy you're handing your guitar to is the guy that will be doing the work. Thanks again, Mike!

Please give us a call today. A message from Michael: My full name is Michael Virok. I have been a Hamilton, NJ resident for most of my life. As far as my education goes, I could tell you everything as far back as pre-school, but the most important aspect of my education is the most recent chunk of time. I attended the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and graduated Suma Cum Laude in 2005 with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts. From there I continued onward to pursue my true passion for guitars at Atlanta Guitar Works in Atlanta, Georgia. It was there in 2007 that I graduated Best In Class and received my title of Luthier. Shortly after returning to New Jersey I was able to find employment with one of the largest repair shops on the East coast and worked in some of their various locations for the next 4 years. Which brings me to today. One string at a time... After earning a well respected & dedicated following, I have decided to open my own private practice for guitar building and sales. I needed to bring my trade back to the community which it serves. In doing so I am able to offer highly competitive prices for skills that are unmatched in the normal major retail realm. Lutherie is an art. It is something that I am proud to do on a daily basis. My grandfather spend much of his life carving & creating wooden folk-art & decoys, and my father is a skilled auto mechanic & now an all-around household repair craftsman. I wont say simply, but I somehow I was able to find both the artistic & technical specializations and have merged them into what I can only describe as the most satisfying trade I could ever enter into. The bottom line is that I view my job as an art form and my builds are works of art. I refuse to let down any customer and I strive to revitalize the art of Lutherie one string at a time.
