Our Goal: To have a full, well developed K through 6th grade school by Fall 2009. K-2 grades benefit from a 6 to 1 child/teacher ratio; this allows for each student to be addressed individually. Students are grouped in multi-age dyads and have the same teachers in the K-3 program by subject Multi-age grouping allows for greater emotional, intellectual, and physical development among the students, allowing opportunities for students to find commonalities and academic challenge. Cross-grade dyads encourage cooperative learning and spirit of community Parent specialists from their field of expertise support the entire teacher team The entire staff meets weekly to plan curricula and tailor instruction. This improves creativity and problem solving in ways teachers cannot do when they work in isolation with large classes. It allows us to understand our students as learners at all levels: Reviewing Research Sharing Talents Ideas Methods and Strategies to Support Each Individual Student We believe language arts are a gateway to the world. Language and Reading: Our approach to teaching blends phonics and whole language. We use: Leveled Readers Dictionaries Story Time Puppetry Spelling and Story Writing to Develop a Love for Our Written Language We believe math is a powerful too for exploring, understanding and explaining the universe. Skill mastery will be built on physical, visual, and cognitive experiences.
