the prices are right, and you get large food portions for the money.. and defiantly the best mexican place I've found in bloomington.Service is usually quick and the to-go service is great. food always hot and ready when i pick up.
I love Mexican food, and was a little worried when I moved to Bloomington...I grew up around a lot of Mexicans and was used to ""real"" Mexican food...I wasn't sure if there'd be anything good around here. At first, there really wasn't, but when El Porton opened up I had real reason for celebration. Everything I've had at El Porton has been wonderful. My favorite thing is the chicken enchiladas with red sauce--I don't know how they make that sauce but it is really rich and tasty--if they'd sell it by the jar, I would totally buy it. The dinner comes with vegetables and sour cream and rice and beans--I always swear I'm going to just eat half and save the leftovers for a separate meal, but I can never stop myself from eating the whole thing. The other things I've really enjoyed there are all of their different kinds of tacos, their bistec dishes, and their posole. The service is pleasant and efficient, and the restaurant is bright and cheerfully decorated.

Although the atmosphere leaves something to be desired, don't let that steer you away. The Molcajeteada is a giant lava bowl with grilled steak, chicken, queso fresca, cactus, & grilled green onions in a lusious sauce. Served with fresh pinto beans & corn tortillas. It can easily feel 3 hungry people. Their homemade salsas and fresh corn chips are served as a free appetizer. The best, authentic Mexican food available in Bloomington/Normal.
If you?re looking for authentic Mexican food, El Porton is the place to go. In the past when I wanted traditional Mexican food I would take a trip to the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago?s lower west side. But after discovering El Porton my cravings have been satisfied. The menu is very extensive with a variety of authentic dishes, which come in generous portions at a very reasonable price. Service is typically good, the wait staff is quick and effecient. Atmosphere is low key and simple. All in all if your looking for a good, quick, authentic Mexican meal, you should check it out.
Let me put it this way: El Porton is the ONLY Mexican restuarant in Bloomington I will eat at. I LOVE their soups, beef, chicken, chorizo and salsa verde. Everything is great there including the price.
If you are looking for legit mexican food, then this is the place for you. They have the best food hands down, and I highly recommend that you try the guacamole.
Well, the actual restaurant is not much, but the food is fantastic. Most Mexican restaurants heap their food with grase and cheese, but here everything is fresh, and actually tastes like traditional Mexican fare. The tacos are fantastic, as are the enchiladas. The platters are huge, and you'll leave with a very full belly.
