The first issue started with the price of the land and why it was so much more expensive than any other house around us had previously paid. Mr. Eldridge told us that the lot he picked to build our house on "will cost $10,000 more than the plats previously cost" without giving any sort of explanation. We found this to be unacceptable so we asked our realtor to reach out to the bank selling the lots. When our realtor reached the banker, we were informed the cost of the land had not gone up and that he didn’t know why the cost Mr. Eldridge was quoting was so much higher. The second issue was selecting a piece of land that our house would not fit on. As the buyer, we expect guidance and expertise on things like land selection and what we should expect when making selections and choices within the home from our builder. We agreed upon a plat based on Mr. Eldridge’s recommendation. Only after we signed the contract and agreed to the plans did he reveal the house would not fit. This forced us to find a less desirable plat in the neighborhood, again based on his recommendation. The third issue was being informed that our initial agreed upon deposit was no longer sufficient and that he was now requiring an even larger deposit in order to secure the loan for the build. The fourth issue was the unexplained delay in breaking ground. Our contract was signed February 12, 2015. I received a text from Mr. Eldridge indicating ground was broken April 1, 2015, 49 days after the contract was signed. Which brings me to the final incident that destroyed the trust in this business relationship. When we went out to check the progress on our house, we found Mr. Eldridge had not lived up to his contractual obligations. He had not provided us with a walk out (according to blue prints) or daylight basement (according to base contract), but instead a full basement with egress windows, something we had been adamant about not wanting from day one of this business relationship. He offered no recourses to resolve the problem and is refusing to return our deposit. If you’re looking to build a house in the Basehor, KS area, DO NOT USE Eldridge Construction!!!
