General Info
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, has as its principal objectives the ensuring of the political, educational, social and economic equality of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination. The primary focus of the NAACP continues to be the protection and enhancement of the civil rights for African Americans and other minorities by removing barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes and educating people on their constitutional rights. The NAACP is the nation's oldest civil rights organization. Its Washington, D.C. bureau, established in 1941, is the legislative arm of the association, and one of the primary forces in the nation's capital lobbying for civil rights.
