- OphthalmologyDr. Bowers, board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, completed his undergraduate degree at The College of Wooster and attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine.
- Macular DegenerationMacular degeneration is an eye disease that causes vision loss due to the deterioration of the central part of the retina, known as the macula. When there’s loss in the central vision of the eye, it affects our ability to read, drive, recognize others and see objects with fine detail. At Sewickley Eye Group, we have the knowledge and resources to address macular degeneration. Treatment options include AREDS vitamins such as Mac Regen, Intravitreal injections, laser surgery and sometimes low vision devices.
- Laser Eye SurgeryOur eye surgeons have the training and experience necessary to determine if you’re a candidate for refractive surgery, and then choose the most appropriate laser for the procedure. Drs. Baumwell and Bowers take the time to personally evaluate every patient prior to surgery, determine their unique needs, and provide follow-up care afterward. LASIK and PRK for nearsightedness and astigmatism often decrease dependence on glasses and contacts for distance vision.
- CataractsDr. Bowers completed an internship at Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh and a postgraduate fellowship in cornea external disease and anterior segment surgery at the University of Minnesota. He is a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
- Cataract SurgeryMastering the most modern cataract surgery has gained Drs. Baumwell and Bowers, an international reputation. Laser-assisted cataract surgery is a newer treatment option that’s more predictable and precise. Patients who have undergone this procedure, which takes about 15 minutes, have experienced clearer vision the very next day. During the procedure, our surgeons will use the most advanced technology available to reduce your dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
- Eye ExamAppointments are required for patients visiting Sewickley Eye Group for an eye exam or surgical procedure. However, you never need to schedule an appointment to come in and browse our large selection of eyewear, to pick up glasses, or to get an adjustment if your glasses are too loose or crooked.
