- ArthritisArthritis is a common, degenerative joint condition that affects one in every five adults in the U.S. There are four major types of arthritis: osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis (including rheumatoid arthritis), post-traumatic arthritis and septic (infectious) arthritis. These conditions involve painful inflammation of the joints and can affect joints in the wrist and hand, making it difficult to perform daily tasks.
- Medical Weight LossLiposuction is a great choice for both men and women looking to improve their figure and eliminate unwanted fat deposits. While this procedure is designed for fat reduction, it’s important to remember that it is not a weight-loss treatment, nor can it replace a healthy lifestyle. In fact, no matter which liposuction technique is used, patients should be within their target weight range and have good skin elasticity for the best results. The ideal liposuction candidate would be someone with a BMI of 30 or less who is seeking to treat no more than 4% of their body weight. Most people who seek this treatment are in relatively good shape but have trouble achieving their fitness goals due to stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise. Other factors that make someone an ideal candidate for liposuction include...
- Primary Care€œThere were a lot of steps you had to take,†Claire explains. “You had to have had the symptoms for more than a certain amount of time. You had to have gone to your primary care physician, a physical therapist or a chiropractor for a certain amount of time and shown that it was not beneficial. You had to prove surgery was a last resort.â€
- Pregnancy
- Internal Medicine€œThe practice of medicine is broad and sweeping, with various disciplines of internal medicine and surgery. I chose a surgical career based on the ability to directly intervene and help those injured and most acutely in need. The specialty of plastic surgery is unique because allows me to reconstruct and restore lost form and function. It also allows me to help patients find their ideal self through surgical and non-surgical breast, body and facial enhancement. As it pertains to hand surgery, the intricate and exquisite anatomy appealed to me greatly. Our hands help translate our mind’s thoughts into actionable events. I am grateful to be able to help patients return to work, sport or artistry with minimal downtime.â€
- Carpal Tunnel SyndromeThis condition is similar to carpal tunnel syndrome and often misdiagnosed as such. However, cubital tunnel syndrome affects the ulnar nerve around the area of the elbow. This medical problem can cause significant pain and make using the hand and arm very challenging. By surgically removing the pressure from the nerve at the elbow, we can help the patients experience relief from pain and regain use of their arm and hand.
- UltrasoundAfter the sterile solution has been infused into the treatment area, Dr. Sharma will make tiny incisions to insert a cannula into the fat deposits. This specialized tube will be moved back and forth to dislodge unwanted fat cells. Other techniques will use mechanical vibrations or ultrasound energy to aid in this process. Once the cells have been loosened, they are suctioned away using a vacuum device attached to the cannula. The incisions will then be closed with either sutures or surgical tape, depending on their size and location.

- Orthopedics
- Arthroscopy
- Joint ReplacementBecause arthritis is a degenerative disease, treatments like oral medication that might work at the onset of the disease will become less effective over time. Surgical options to treat arthritis include joint reconstruction, joint fusion, joint realignment and partial or total joint replacement.

- BotoxMost facelifts are performed on individuals in their 40s, 50s or 60s. This is when deep lines, wrinkles or sagging become more noticeable, and these concerns are best treated with surgical solutions that tighten the underlying tissues. In comparison, patients in their 30s typically have less severe signs of aging that respond well to nonsurgical techniques like dermal fillers or Botox injections. The mini facelift is also a good option for younger patients. During your consultation, Dr. Sharma will evaluate your concerns and recommend the best approach for rejuvenating your appearance.
- Brow LiftThe duration of a facelift will depend on your individual goals and precisely what is to be accomplished during the operation. Typically, surgery takes several hours to complete. If additional procedures are added, such as a brow lift or fat grafting, it can take up to four hours or more. Dr. Sharma takes his time with each patient and doesn’t rush the surgical process, ensuring the best possible outcome.
- Eyelid SurgeryA facelift is highly effective when performed alone, but many of Dr. Sharma’s patients are looking for more rejuvenation than a facelift can provide. In these cases, Dr. Sharma may recommend additional procedures at the same time, such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) or a neck lift. Adjunctive treatments can also be done with a facelift lift to enhance results. These treatments might include soft tissue fillers to soften jowls or restore facial volume, or chemical or laser peels to resurface the skin for a smoother and more radiant glow.
- LiposuctionWhether due to aging, lifestyle or genetics, the accumulation of fat is a natural part of life. However, sometimes stubborn pockets of fat develop that are difficult to get rid of. Over the years, countless diet and workout trends have emerged to help target the biggest trouble spots, but these solutions don’t always seem to work. As a result, many people turn to liposuction to achieve their fitness goals and improve how they feel about their body contours.
- Breast AugmentationBreast augmentation provides dramatic, long-lasting results that can significantly boost a woman’s confidence in her appearance. The process is often quicker and more comfortable than women expect, and the outcome extends for many years. Once the healing process is complete, you can expect to notice several benefits, including...
- Breast ReductionWith a string of failed efforts to manage the pain behind her, Claire says she “stumbled upon†the idea of breast reduction surgery. It was an intimidating prospect at first. “Surgery to remove parts of you seems very extreme, but I knew there was nothing else that was going to help,†she says. “I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. I can’t.’ It was too much pain.â€
- Breast LiftBreast augmentation is done on an outpatient basis and generally lasts between one and three hours. If your surgical plan also includes a breast lift, liposuction or other cosmetic procedure, it can take longer to complete. Depending on your needs and preferences, Dr. Sharma may recommend local or general anesthesia. Either option will keep you comfortable throughout the entire operation. Incisions will be placed within the pigmented area of the areola or underneath the breast in the natural crease. Incisions are small and strategically placed in order to reduce any noticeable scarring. Anesthesia and incision location will be discussed at your consultation, so you’ll know what to expect.

The following outlines how we protect your personal information collected with your visit to our site. Plastic Surgery Austin may update our statement on occasion as new programs, services and processes are implemented.
- Face LiftTime is not a friend to the complexion. Gravity, exposure to the elements and stress all wreak havoc on the facial soft tissues and over time, causing wrinkles, deep jowls and neck creases. That sad and tired appearance that you see in the mirror doesn’t always reflect how you feel on the inside, which is why many men and women seek out surgery to rejuvenate their looks and turn back the clock. A surgical facelift or rhytidectomy can be a way to dramatically refresh the face with noticeable results that last for many years.
- Neck LiftWhile this approach features longer incisions that extend beneath the ears, Dr. Sharma can make a more dramatic correction to the mid and lower face through this technique. Like the mini lift, incisions are hidden within the hairline or natural creases of the skin in most cases to minimize visible scarring. Jowls are eliminated, as well as creases in the lower face. Some improvement is also made to the neck, although the addition of a neck lift will produce even more enhancement in this area.
- Blepharoplasty
- Body LiftLiposuction is great for sculpting a slimmer physique, but it has a minimal effect on the tone or tightness of your skin. If you have significant sagging you’d like to resolve, Dr. Sharma may recommend VASER liposuction instead, which can promote firmer contours by causing the skin to contract. For more severe cases, a surgical body lift may be required to help you achieve your desired results. These procedures can be combined for your benefit.
- Breast SurgeryDr. Sharma and his nurse will meet with you at your initial consultation to discuss your concerns and goals for breast augmentation. He will also collect a full medical history and perform an examination to ensure breast surgery will be safe for you. Through this process, he will be able to determine whether breast augmentation is the right choice for you and the best surgical plan to meet your needs and expectations. Before committing to breast augmentation, several factors will be considered. This includes...
- Body ContouringLiposuction, also known as liposculpture, is a body contouring procedure that permanently removes stubborn fat. Earlier forms of this procedure simply used a tube-like tool called a cannula to suction out unwanted fat cells, but surgical techniques have evolved significantly throughout the years to provide safer and more consistent outcomes. Today, liposuction can be used to treat nearly any area of the body, making it one of the most versatile procedures for sculpting a more flattering figure. Multiple regions can be addressed in a single operation and it can be combined with other cosmetic procedures for highly personalized results. To give his Austin patients the most flexibility in customizing their treatments, Dr. Sharma offers a variety of modern liposuction techniques that suit a range of individual preferences, including tumescent, VASER and power-assisted liposuction.
- GynecomastiaThe most commonly treated areas with liposuction include the stomach, hips, thighs, waist, buttocks, flanks, arms and back, but some techniques can target more delicate areas such as the face, chin and knees. Different approaches may also be recommended depending on your concerns. For example, ultrasound-assisted liposuction is frequently used to treat gynecomastia, a condition in which male breast tissue develops excessively.
- Cosmetic Surgery
- Cyst
- Skin CareAlthough liposuction requires your surgeon to make incisions in the skin, it doesn’t usually result in much scarring. That’s because the incisions are small and strategically placed to limit visibility. Once they heal, your incision lines will be barely noticeable and easily concealed by normal clothing. You can also take steps to further minimize scarring, such as following all aftercare instructions, avoiding sun exposure and using high-quality skin care products.
- Sports MedicineDr. Sharma grew up in the Midwest (Tulsa, OK) and Southwest (Houston, TX). He completed his undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in Chemistry and Biochemistry. He graduated in 1992, and entered Medical School at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX that same year. It was here that Dr. Sharma’s interest in hand surgery and plastic surgery led him to pursue those avenues as a career. He has enjoyed the benefit and luxury of training at preeminent institutions with some of this country’s most renowned surgeons. The Texas Medical Center served as the backdrop for his combined General Surgery and Plastic Surgery training at Baylor College of Medicine; the broad scope of training included extensive experience in aesthetic surgery, breast augmentation and reconstruction, congenital and pediatric plastic surgery, trauma reconstruction, and hand and microsurgery. An additional one year Orthopedic Hand Surgery Fellowship at the University of Washington Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine further developed Dr. Sharma’s skills as a hand and wrist surgeon. Additional expertise gained in areas such as wrist pain and pathology, small joint and wrist arthritis, joint replacement, wrist arthroscopy, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, distal radius fractures and trauma reconstruction enabled him to become a well-rounded specialist in hand surgery.

- Occupational TherapyI had a cut tendon that was not initially diagnosed (elsewhere). I was in surgery less than 24 hrs after seeing Dr. Sharma. The coordination with Dell Setton UT, covid precautions, and Dr. Sharma’s team was fast and smooth. The surgery went great and I am on the way to being able to use my thumb again! The follow up with Occupational Therapy is excellent. So many people helping me along is a humbling experience. I had a cut tendon that was not initially diagnosed (elsewhere).
