- Dental ExaminationComprehensive pediatric dental care that is both proactive and preventative can eliminate the need for costly and invasive treatments in the future. By cultivating good oral health at an early age with proper home care, professional cleanings, and regularly scheduled dental exams, we aim to set your child up for long-term dental success. Our dentists are always on watch for early changes in dental health or development that may indicate the need for swift preventative intervention.
- X-raysOnce the baby teeth in back are touching one another, annual bitewing X-rays are recommended to detect any infection or cavity that cannot be seen by naked eye. If your child is at a high risk of dental problems, we may suggest having X-rays taken at an earlier age. Panoramic X-rays help us evaluate the growth and development of your child, check for extra or missing teeth, and rule out any unwanted growths or lesions.

- Teeth CleaningAt Ashburn Children’s Dentistry our pediatric dentists believe that prevention is always better than treatment. By actively preventing disease and decay through regular at-home care, professional dental cleanings, and regular exams, your child can maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. Effective prevention efforts can also help you avoid paying costly treatments in the future to remove decay, restore teeth, and treat gum disease. Regular prevention is truly your best investment for a long-lasting, beautiful smile and optimal oral health.
- Fluoride TreatmentFluoride treatment and fluoridated water can help children’s teeth become stronger and healthier. We offer fluoride treatment as a part of every continuing care appointment. If you reside in a community that does not have water fluoridation, we also provide age-appropriate recommendations for incorporating fluoride into your child’s diet. In some cases, we may provide prescriptions for fluoride supplements to ensure the health of your child’s permanent teeth in the future.
- Dental SealantsNatural pits and grooves on the chewing surfaces of back teeth can trap food that cannot be removed by brushing or washed out by water or saliva. To prevent harmful bacteria from exploiting the natural topography of chewing surfaces and creating cavities, our dentists can place protective sealants over vulnerable areas identified during exams. A sealant is a tough, plastic material designed to bond (stick) to tooth enamel and protect against the formation of decay. For the safety of our patients we only use BPA-free sealants.
- Space MaintainersOnce a tooth has been removed, the neighboring teeth may shift. Shifting teeth can cause problems with chewing or with jaw joint function. To avoid these complications, your dentist may recommend replacing the extracted tooth with a space maintainer to prevent loss of space and allow the permanent tooth to grow into its correct position.
- Fillings
- VeneersWe are pleased to offer our patients conservative, natural-looking Lumineers as an alternative to traditional porcelain veneers. Lumineers provide an easy way to conceal stains, chips, discoloration, and misaligned teeth by covering the natural teeth with a thin layer of tooth-colored material. They are also a great way to improve multiple aesthetic aspects of the smile without the need for treatments that young patients might find uncomfortable or traumatic.
- CrownsWhen a tooth becomes badly damaged due to extensive decay or trauma, it may need to be restored with a custom dental crown. To provide our patients with a variety of options for restoring damaged teeth, we offer both mercury-free metal crowns (traditionally used for back teeth) and cosmetic tooth-colored crowns. Natural-looking, tooth-colored crowns are shade-matched to provide aesthetic benefits while also offering the same strength and durability as metal crowns. Crowns that are placed on front teeth are always tooth colored. Cosmetic crowns not only keep the smile white and beautiful, they also protect the treated teeth from further damage and help maintain a properly aligned bite.
- Dental BondingDental stains and tooth discoloration can have a variety of causes, and at Ashburn Children’s Dentistry we offer treatments that can help your child achieve a brighter, whiter smile. Whether he or she is struggling with a single discolored tooth or general yellowing of the entire smile, our dentists can provide an effective solution. For suitable candidates we offer in-office whitening and consistently get amazing results! We also perform other cosmetic treatments that can address deeper staining and discoloration that cannot be adequately resolved with bleaching techniques, such as cosmetic bonding and dental veneers. Please ask about our whitening treatments and other cosmetic options at your next appointment.
- PulpotomyFor baby teeth, a partial root canal procedure called a pulpotomy can be performed. During treatment, our pediatric dentists remove the infected portion of the pulp and seal the remainder with a medication that restores the rest of the nerve.
- Root Canal TreatmentIn the past, if a child had a tooth where a cavity had infected the nerve, he or she would probably lose that tooth. Today, with a special dental procedure called a baby root canal, a child’s tooth may be saved.
