While I strive to be as accurate as possible when prescribing a remedy, there may be a short period of trial and error until the optimum remedy is determined. In homeopathic medicine, side effects are uncommon. If the wrong remedy is given, nothing happens or the symptom picture becomes clearer and the correct remedy becomes more obvious. HOW CAN I MEASURE IMPROVEMENT? Homeopathic medicine has developed a sophisticated system for evaluating the success and progress of your case. This system is based on a 170 year old record of clinically proven cases and it has remained unchanged in its philosophy and results. The primary yardstick of measurement is how you feel. Have your symptoms cleared up? Has your energy level improved? What about your physical stamina, your mental and emotional health?Throughout medical history, disease has been approached from two basic points of view: The mechanistic/materialistic perspective sees disease as a malfunction of specific body components and the symptoms as the disease itself. The vitalistic/holistic perspective views disease as the result of a deeper disturbance and imbalance of the whole person, while the symptoms are simply the signs and the manifestation of the disturbance. The malfunction viewpoint is the driving force in conventional treatments. Whenever symptoms arise, they are counteracted by drugs, e.g. a decongestant for a runny nose, analgesic for pain, a steroid for inflammation, etc. Homeopathy represents the holistic viewpoint.
